Neither, '73 Pontiac Safari has a '71-76 8 7/8 MP series 12bolt.

Very hard to find gearset. the midratio 31spline MP series carriers are seldom avail too.

Both of these sound like 8-7/8" 10-bolt cover parts.

The rear is a 12 bolt, 12 bolts attach the ring gear to the carrier.
The 71-76 MP series 12 bolt is a direct descendant of the '65-70 P series 12 bolt used in '65-70 Pontiac B series. Some later GM literature will reference the later rear as an 8.75.

The MP series ring & pinion changed for '77 big cars. The pinion on the '77-83 model MP series gear set is longer, & as such the last MP series gear sets will not work in '71-76 or earlier housings

Correct 10 bolt cover, 12 Bolt Ring Gear. These are the same as 65-70 Full Size Pontiac except the Pinion Gear on the 71-76 is 30 Spline
where the 65-70 is 28. Interchangeable with 65-70 with 30 Spline Pinion Driveshaft Yoke
