Kieth, my Lemans is a 63 as well. The interior is Saddle, with AC, PS, PB and console. It has a 69 400 motor and a 2BL rochester. I put RA3 exhaust manifolds on it. Should make a good driver.

Gary, I got my 400 cfm AFB from Carb King. 573) 392-7378 Nice guy and a PYer.

Making some progress on my 63 Lemans. The 68 400 engine and 700R4 trans are in and running. The bum part is that I have to tow it 3 hours each way (across the desert) to the Bowtie Overdrive trans shop in Hesperia, CA because the trans pressures are a little low! After that the engine & trans will come back out and its finally off to the paint shop.

Thumbs up Maiden voyage tonight!

Well after almost a year of owning my 62, I was able to take it down the road tonight. As far as I know the car hasn't moved under it's own power for almost 4 years. I received it last July 4th weekend. Been working on it ever since. Neighbors looked at me kinda funny tonight. I was sitting on the floorpan, no front or back glass in it. It started, stopped, shifted and turned. Smokes a bunch, exhaust rattles like crazy, but I don't care right now. When I purchased the car I wasn't even sure if the motor was ok. Now all I gotta do is get the interior finished before Norwalk. I owe many people on this site a great big THANKS, for all of the help with this car!

Rack and pinion going together. It's all welded up now. K member is being sent off for powder coating. If anyone wants to convert let me know and I can tell you what you need. The rack is saving a ton of weight off the front of the car.

Couple pics of the 20 gallon fuel cell mounted as well. It is mounted on two 2" wide x 1/4" thick steel straps that is welded to the front and rear of the trunk. There are also braces under the 2" x 1/4" rails for support. The hole for the sump is small and unobtrusive. I'm very happy with how it's coming out.

Ron, very nice job. One note, look for a factory style oil fill breather cap. I see the oil on your valve cover. That is because most of the new replacement caps do not have the tube on the inside of the cap. The factory cap has a tube that goes up a little over 1/4 inch inside the cap. That stops the oil from splashing up inside the cap, then running out of the breather holes.

Default Breatber cap info.

I had a PM asking about the breather cap comment that I made. I am sure more than one person has this issue. I had the oil drip on the valve cover until I noticed something while working with an original untouched for years engine. The old breather cap is taller than most of the one's you can find today. The distance from the gasket to the bottom of the breather cap on the old style is 3/8 of an inch. The same area of the new style is only 3/16th of an inch. That extra 3/16 distance is enough to keep oil from running out of the breather when the engine is running. The first picture is my engine after 100 miles, some of it at 70MPH, most at 55MPH on a 2 lane road. I did not clean the engine at all. The second picture is an old and new breather cap side by side. The black one is original from a 61 engine. The chrome one is aftermarket purchased 3 years ago. Look close and I think you can see the difference.

Any car with a road draft tube will drip oil onto the valve cover. Thats a given. If you have the stock breather cap, it will be minimal. If you have a PCV valve system on your motor, you should have no oil leakage. This is assuming your motor is in decent shape & does not have excessive blow by. Every time I am under the hood checking the oil, water, etc. I allways wipe the area around the breather cap. Just a habit I guess. The current build has about 200K on it. Several oil leaks but the plugs come out perfectly clean, so it will run some more.

Yeah I hope to make it next year. It should be ready to make some passes near the end of this year. I don't have a trailer yet so I'll have to figure that part out

Thumbs up Progress

I have been making some progress lately. Finally got headliner installed. Then came windshield and back glass. Interior trim is going back on. Speakers and stereo hooked up. Next is package tray. Still waiting for door panels and seat upholstery. These have been ordered since June 10th. Deadline is fast approaching. May have to throw some covers on the old seat to make norwalk.

It looks tighter than it actually is. My 2" hookers fit no problem. He said that a 2 1/4" primary will also fit without hitting (he had already checked it without me even asking) The steering shaft snakes between the front 2 tubes and the engine is set back like 3-4 inches.
