I read this thread with much interest and I have a question regarding a car that I own. It is a '61 Ventura 425A 4 speed car, when I sent my request in to PHS to have my car documented Jim Mattison called me on the phone and we talked about my car. It seems that I remember him saying that there were a total of 572 425A 4 speed cars built. At the time I thought he meant total 425A Venturas but after reading this thread I wonder if I misunderstood him or did he mean this many were built at the Pontiac Mi. plant. Any thoughts??? or did I misunderstand him. BTW....my motor is a M4

I assume your 425A Ventura has tripower? The total number of 425A tripower manual transmission cars I posted earlier was 1,528 (based on the engine log that came with my PHS documents.) It includes both three and four speed cars, and all the different models - Catalina, Ventura, Star Chief, and Bonneville - built at all the different assembly plants.
He could have been talking about the total number of Venturas, since they were their own model that year. I'd guess there were a similar number of Catalinas equipped that way, with the rest in Star Chiefs or Bonnevilles. I got the PHS documents for my car back in about 1992 or so, and they didn't add any extra information about the production numbers. I've been thinking about sending in for the PHS documents on my car again, just to see if they'd have more information this time around. |

Stuart,
Thanks for your response, I tried to get back to you yesterday but for some reason could not log in. Yes, my car is a Tri-power. I doubt that PHS has any additional info over what they had when you had your car documented. I just bought my car about this time last year so I got the documentation last July. The info states under 1961 engine production....M-4 1352 built and under vehicle production.....Ventura 2 dr HT 13297 built. The 572 figure that I remember is something that Mr. Mattison referred too while we were talking, I beleive it may have been the total number of 425A cars built in the Pontiac Mi. plant. Perhaps I should contact him and refresh my memory. Thanks again for your informative post
