That is some awesome work! I wonder why the owner didn't opt for real SD carbs?

They're in the owners possession and will be installed. Lettering also being done elsewhere.

I notice that the Union Park car has no hood scoop, while the Van Winkle car has the "Super Duty" scoop.
Were the cars originally delivered with the scoop, or were they added later? If added later, did any of them use a different scoop?
I know these were Ford truck parts, but IIRC they had a Pontiac part number. Is that right?

the cars were not delivered with the scoop. I cannot speak for the cheese cars i haven't touched but i do know that since it was a pontiac part # they were probably all the same. the union park did have one at one time but not as it was delivered to harold ramsey, and thats how i decided to restore it.

Rear tires look like Atlas Bucrons. They would be period correct.

...same material, different continent!!

Interesting that "aluminum" was on the fender tops on the original paint job (didn't know that).

Great product outcome, Thorpes.

Correct - Ford truck parts with a Pontiac part number. There was also a Pontiac part number pulled for the "hole" in the hood.

The Royal car has a unique (homemade) scoop, more triangular in shape that the regular SD scoop.

That's what I've heard since the cars were being raced back in the sixties BUT.....to my knowledge no body has ever been able to produce the Pontiac number for that scoop.

It's out there. It'll turn up.

A couple of the guys had scoops still in the boxes, with the number on the box. Just need them to get out there and check their stuff.

I have a scoop in the box, but it's a Ford box...no clue on what the Pontiac part number would have been.

NHRA Tech Inspector "Farmer" Dismuke demanded that there be a Pontiac part number before he would allow the cars to run with that part installed. That's how there came to be a part number for the "hole", too (he was probably being sarcastic but Wangers did it just to spite him). He was a pretty tough ol' bird.

http://www.nhra.net/2004/news/august/083101.html

He had a ring with a magnet on it; while he was inspecting the car(s) he would lay his hand on it and if he found aluminum or fiberglass where it wasn't supposed to be he'd throw you out.

That's why he stuck our car in B/FX at the '63 Indy Nationals instead of B/Stock (which we had been running up to that point). We parked it rather than run against the other FX factory cars, which is why dad was available to drive Pete Seaton's car in the B/FX final round against Wangers.
