Default Shifter, auto

I have a 65 I bought as a wreck, driveable, but a wreck. I drove it down the block once and have stripped it down the the frame since. It was originally a powerglide, has a th400 now. When I ran it down the street the trans didn't seem right, so I sent it out to be rebuilt. My question is about the shifter, how do I tell if I have the right parts now that I am torn down? The console still is PG., just low and drive. I don't want to get the car all back together and not have the right shifter parts on hand.
Whats the best GTO book or books to buy for referance?

Thanks, Larry

Larry,

If you are going to continue to use the TH400, you need to go to Shift Works and get a conversion kit that will allow you to use both the TH400 and the floor console. The kit from Shift Works will allow to keep the appearance of being stock/original, but allow you to select all 3 gears.

I used it on my 64 column shift and it works great. Here is there website,

Good luck.
