I found this search engine https://ncrs.org/dealercodes.php a Chevy dealer came up but don't know yet if they also had Pontiacs . It is in NC though and the town actual has old abandoned drag strip ! Low Country Cooper River/ Low Country Dragway

Zone 16 Dealer Number 460 LOWCOUNTRY LOVE CHEVROLET, INC. PO BOX 518 MONCKS CORNER South Carolina 29461

Next step is do dig into 1962 1963 HS yearbooks online and look at sponsors as it is a great way to find local dealers info

Chevy used different numbers for different zones and dealers.
Nothing will correlate to the Pontiac zone 16 or the dealer number 460.

Buicks are different also. (probably all the different manufacturers are)
I have lots of Pontiac dealers but use the Buick numbering system.
Not relevant to Pontiac zone/dealer #'s;

I kinda figured they wouldn't correlate but both are in South Carolina and since most dealers carried several GM Makes then would one dealer have more than one ID # ?

Basically, yes.
(the location doesn't mean much other than has to be in the zone area though)

The same dealer would have a Buick dealer number (for their Buicks) and one for Pontiacs and another if also GMC for example.
Not same zone number of dealer number.

Pontiac seemed to have basically alphabetical order to the dealer numbers in a zone.

Like for the 460 in zone 16, the dealer could be between Parker Pontiac and Quality Pontiac. So possibly a dealer starting with a 'P'.

I found a list of IH dealers that could be of some help to others .
Some Pontiac dealers were also International Harvester
http://www.ihdealerspast.net/states/mt_nc.pdf

Your un-numbered dealer (Payne Truck and Tractor) also goes as Payne Pontiac-Buick Boone Road West Jefferson NC <--1976

And some Payne Pontiac-Buick golf tees https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-EST...-/302671988597

Between here as you said

16 431 Oglesby Pontiac-Buick Inc, 160 North First St, Wytheville, VA 24382
From Darryl (gdarrylk@earthlink.net)
16 ??? Payne Truck and Tractor, West Jefferson, NC (out of business)
From Robert George (REG@twave.net)
16 464 Quality Pontiac Inc, 1226 Roanoke Ave, Roanoke Rapids, NC
From (Joanm3boys@aol.com) '69 Judge

That's cool!

Thanks, Larry.

Never knew that about the IH dealers?

I'll add those Pontiac dealers.
That could be close to the 460 dealer possibly.

Here is my local Ennis TX lost local dealer I finally identified. Supposed that a RAIV Judge and a 69 TA with RAV came thru here. This was the first time I saw IH included .

Never heard that one before either. In my neck of the woods it seems the Pontiac dealers typically also sold GMC trucks, while the IH farm implement dealers sold IH trucks.

Any idea when Payne Pontiac-Buick was in business?

Another possibility could be Paul's Pontiac-Buick in Chester, SC.

But without knowing when these dealers were operating, impossible to know if they were in biz in '63.

You could ask PHS. You might have to purchase their repro Window Sticker but PHS has the most extensive list of Pontiac dealer codes from that era.

You could also check with Mike Noun, he has collected an extensive list of codes in the course of generating his more authentic Window Sticker reproductions.

Thanks for the suggestion John ! I saw PHS Musclecars (Facebook) was online today and sent a message to them saying I just got my packet and had the Zone 16 # 460 and asked if they had a list of the names and addresses to go with thatand sure enough got a reply with Perkin's Pontiac Thomasville NC !

I'm pretty sure that's where our '61 Catalina came from also.

Here are some images I found a simple 63 ad in the yearbook that year and they sold Ramblers ..haha A few dealer collectible images I found that already sold. Also some older cool adds from newspapers. back to drag racing and see how far in the 7's she will go (1/8th)

My 64 is from a nearby dealer, Morgan Motor Company of Albemarle, NC. If you go to the NC DMV website there is a form that allows you to request the title history of your car. Write that you need the information for restoration purposes. I did it for mine and they sent me the original registration and statement of origin (from microfilm) for the car. It cost $11. Very worth your time.
