Default B/U lamp water shield 65

A quick question... How many bolts hold the water shield to the bumper bracket?????

If I recall Bill, it was just a couple of larger sheetmetal (self-tappers) bolts that screwed to the bumper bracket.

Just great. that shows me the lamp housing is not serviceable without removing the bumper.... I see one bolt. The other is in no-mans-land.....

Thanks for the input

I'll add one more thought. I will remove the rear frame rail to bumper bracket bolts and see if the bumper will swing down past the extensions. Would be easier on me not to drop the bumper off completely. no helpers available at this time....

Both bolts can be reached with the bumper in place. Yes, one is easy, and the other is difficult. What surprised me is that there is different shields for 64 and 65. If you feel strongly about dropping the bumper, the rear most bolts are the one to remove, and the front most ones are the ones to loosen to let it swing down. The center bracket is what is annoying to me.

Hello Andre. Guess I won't be seeing you this year in St.Charles. maybe next year....
I will look harder for the top bolt. Did not see it Saturday...And yes, the center bracket looks like NO FUN either. Glad this is a relaxing hobby!!!!!!!

Good to hear from you!!

Now it is time "for the rest of the story"!

After much pondering and helpful suggestions from my PY family, this is what I did:

Removed the bottom bolt from the splash shield.

Removed the bottom bumper to bumper bracket bolt.

Pulled the splash guard towards me as far as possible. Splash guard was designed with a relief that let it clear the bumper bracket to frame leg bolt.

Just barely enough room for me to get my hand and a 3/8" wrench in there to loosen the light housing bracket nuts. But it worked. One down and one to go. It helped to have small hands. My wife did ask what the heck I did to the back of my hand!!!!! It will heal.

I appreciate all the help from my PY friends...

We knew with enough education even you could get it done.
