Boss,

It really was exciting for both of us. This doesn't happen all the time. she has been calling me everytime she remembers something...lol

She asked me if there was still white marks on the dash pull handle, I had to look to answer this question, while on the phone with her I respond yes, there is ?? She stated that her daughter was around 3-4 and decided to chew on the handle when the car was still very new...lol.

Wow.... that truly is the wonderful part of caring for these cars the way we do.

Thank you for sharing this story, and hopefully we'll see some original purchase pictures in the near future. Yeah!

My grandmother drove a Cougar in the early '70's and we always used to ask her to make it growl. Luckily, it didn't bite too hard and GM began to flow in my blood instead

That is a cool story, and great to know the history like that. I am sure she is going to love the car when she sees it again.

Good job on tracking the original owner down. Being that a woman owned it, I agree that you've made a new friend for life w/stories and pictures. Had the same thing happen to me when I found the original owner of my old Judge.

All pics are uploaded from the tear down. All i have left is misc items on the engine. If anyone is looking through my pictures and notices something, please post for discussion.

Also the original owner has found pictures of the car when it was bought new, I am waiting for her to send them. Can't wait to see if it does have the 455 decals on it

Any pics of the front brake hoses on this car? I'm looking to purchase new ones, but vendors lists 69 and 70 disc brake hoses as the same.

FWIW... I see you are referencing the bolts and nuts as "pinched" style, pictures of bolt heads with 3,5,6 hash marks , 3-5 dots on nut face..... Well, these markings were the old way of designating a bolts/nuts grade. Modern bolts and nuts pretty much are two grades, grade 5 and 8, and are designated by color, silver grade 5....gold grade 8. Well, look at the scanned sheet from the 1971 Pontiac manual. These hash marks and the dots on nuts, designated either Grade 1 thru Grade 8.
Since the board is enjoying your pictures of correct bolts and nuts..thought everyone would like to see what the dots and hash marks mean..

Been working on restoring parts for this car. I have taking the original parts that where left natural from pontiac and soaking them in a solution to eat the rust, in turn leaving the natural finish. Thought i would share the pics. I may have to replace the rear sway bar links due to some pitting.

The center link is a natural steel originally, before i soaked it, it had that blue/gray hue to it as we have seen. I was able to wipe that off, obviously being somethin applied.

Its a system I fabricated. We came up with the idea to save survivor cars so NO bolt or part is physically altered.

This is a Grand National that was poorly stored, example of my system.

Here is a video to give you an idea, this system since has been upgraded, the one you see is the first style we fabricated
