LED tail light
I have read quite a few posts here on LED tail lights. Can someone simply give a part number for the bulb and flasher combo that will work on a 65 GTO, or a proven vendor to contact. I am aware of 1157 bulbs and led 1157 bulbs, but where can I find a working combo with no issues?

Not sure what LED bulbs you were looking into,
but FWIW I've been using the Sylvania LEDs for a few years now. I DID NOT change my flasher. No issues. OUTPUT is amazing.

I've been playing with various LEDs all winter from bulbs to LED boards and checking with a light meter. I found these iBrightstar with a projector beam to be the simplest and brightest. They flash just fine without a resistor. Order them in red, clear LEDs tend to wash out the red lens too much.

I just bought these from Amazon. I have tried them on a regular flasher and a low or no load flasher, and have yet to get them to perform consistently correct. In fact , they very seldom perform as they should.

I just installed 1157R led bulbs in the taillights of my 67 GTO… kept the incandescent in the front. No issues.

polarity on the bulbs is a big factor

I do have a new American Autowire harness with the flasher that was included in the kit. But it is a standard flasher. Other than the 2 dash indicators, still have incandescent bulbs everywhere else and they flash like normal. We did a 5 day back road trip last month, glad I had the extra brightness, lots of idiots driving around.

Superbright LEDs has a great product and they will list all bulbs for your car. Good advice about using bulbs the same color as your lense.

Picture on the left is tail light on.
Picture on the right is brake light on. In each picture, the left side lamp is the LED 1157 replacement lamp and the right side lamp is a standard 1157 lamp.

I ordered four of the bulbs you linked to, they arrive tomorrow. Amazon said that "they didn't fit my '67 GTO" but I don't think they have that right - and they recommended other bulbs that clearly WILL NOT fit based on the bulb bases. |

Updating - the bulbs were delivered today, installed them (they fit, contrary to Amazon's guidance), installed them and they work with the original flasher and incandescent bulbs in the front parking/turn signal lights.
I did discover that my right front was burned out, so the turn signal wouldn't work. I removed the amber bulb, installed one of the clear incandescent bulbs that i removed from the rear, and everything worked. Now I'll just have to replace the amber bulbs (I'll keep those as incandescent since I know they'll work with the rear LEDs), and I'll be good to go! This undertaking started because I discovered that my brake lights were out, fuse had blown, not sure why. I also discovered that the interior dome/console lights and brake lights are on the same circuit, but my dome light's always spotty so I didn't make any connection. |
