Default My future carb 3bbl

I know this carb is probably not ideal, but I wanted to try it out. I built this about a year ago and took it out to look it over. I plan to run it on a torquer II, 455 running a RAiv cam and ported heads. I figured I share considering most have probably not run one before.

That is the 1050 version,I have a 950 and have run it a lot.It is always worth about 25 HP over a 780 vac sec on many dyno runs with diff engines.Make sure your intake is notched to clear the secondary blade.I have never tred the 1050,maybe Tom V will chime in.Tom

I have a 950 3BBL in my stash too. When I was trying to decide which to build, I figured go big or go home. LOL. Like I said, I did this more to be different vs being economical. Actually I figured the venturi effect is probably not much different between the 2 considering how large the opening is. The 1050 also reminds me of the Q-jet tubes in the secondaries. The divder in the Q-jet probably helps control the air and fuel flow though better then this one.

Friend had a 36 Chevy coupe, with a 327, running one of those. He loved it!

Ran one for 10 years, ran beautifully. Developed a serious flat spot that I couldn't quite nail down (changed jets, pump cam, etc). Happened at cruise speeds when applying about 1/5 throttle. Check ball was seating fine, got plenty of squirt, but the flat spot was overwhelming. Ended up switching to another carb temporarily, just never got back to the 3-bbl.

Mine's dated Jan. 1969. Also shown is a photo with the choke flap closed.

Maybe Tom V. can chime in!

I ran one for a guy years ago (may have been for a friend of Tom V.) and I would suggest using wideband to tune.
Especially the sec side as they run lean.

We need to see a video of this carb eating a white castle hamburger once you get in on the engine. Had a friend would would feed white castle hamburgers to his 3bbl equipped BBC. Would draw quite a crowd. This was back in the 80s.

I do have a wideband, that is good to know. I have the stock #4 plate and as well as a couple others i can play with/modify if needed.
