Radio opinion
I have the factory radio for my car and it’s in very good shape. Turnswitch wants 610 dollars to do the wireless Bluetooth FM remote for incoming/out going call basically your old radio is completely gutted and new guts fill the radio housing and you just put it back in the dash and hook to it Bluetooth. Or I can spend half as much on the secret audio from custom auto sound and lose the phone and the cool factor. Both have outlets for amplifiers. What’s your opinion? The custom auto sound lets you leave your factory radio. In the dash and you can mount it under the seat,

With a freshly built car, listening to tunes should be on the
backburner. Enjoy the sounds it's supposed to make, while also listening for sounds it shouldn't make. Besides, you literally just told us that you have too many irons in the fire. So clean up the existing radio, slap it in place, and just ignore it for now. |

I use the 630 model from Custom Autosounds. I basically wanted 2 things. I wanted a knob radio (which is non existent anywhere else) so I didn't have to cut the dash, and I wanted a USB hookup. That's about it. This radio does that for little money. I don't want or care for blue tooth or any hand free phone option stuff. All I want is to plug in the USB and listen to music, I don't listen to what's on the radio much these days.
Works good for what I use it for, has the appearance of a stock type radio, and fits nice. I may end up buying another one because the 30 year old knob style Pioneer in my bird is now acting goofy, the clock runs like crazy and stations change on their own, and cuts in and out when it wants,,,,,it's possessed. Can't go to the local Radio Shack and buy these anymore so it's probably another order from Custom Autosounds. |

I thought you were hurting for money? http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=837179
A "radio" can be dealt with when the car is road ready. |

Don’t even bother with the radio for now. I’ve had my car on the road for 3 years now, put in a custom autosounds radio and don’t think I’ve ever turned it on once while driving. Get your car on the road first and worry about the radio later.

I’ve had my car 20 years. It’s fairly quiet inside with long case turbo mufflers and foil backed sound deadening, so a radio works. If I said the AM radio has been on 10 minutes in that time, I’d probably be exaggerating. For me, part of the joy of the car are it’s sounds.
But....good luck in your search.

Another less expensive option is to get a Redirad, built by board member Engine-Ear: https://redirad.com

Bluetooth-to-FM transmitters work well and are almost free.
Give it power, connect your phone by Bluetooth, set an FM broadcast channel to a quiet spot on your radio and tune it in. I used one for years on my daily commute without issue. Use your radio as-is and unplug/hide the transmitter anytime you want. Here's one just for example...there are lots of options: https://www.amazon.com/Nulaxy-Wirele...s%2C204&sr=8-5 |

If he's talking about his 1964 Tempest, the radio will be AM only.

Yes, that would take the fun out of using an FM transmitter!

I am in the process of bodywork and paint right now but I am getting all my ducks in a row because he is going to return it to me painted and assembled but I have all new M&H harnesses so I want to do the radio while the dash is apart. It will come back to me with no interior so all the electrical is on me.
