Default Which AFB Carb Base Gasket?

When choosing a carb base gasket, do you want to match the manifold or the carb? The manifold has the 4 hole square bore pattern and the carb is pictured below. Some of the base gaskets are either 4 hole, open, or 4 hole and have slots or small holes punched in them. Kinda confused about this

ALWAYS best to use the CORRECT, ORIGINAL gasket specified by the manufacturer for the carburetor against the carburetor.

A second gasket matching the above to the intake MIGHT be necessary if the original carburetor application and the intake application are different.

Thanks for the reply Jon. That's part of the problem I think, because the carb is not original to the manifold. It is an aftermarket Offy manifold and the carb is a 4242s off a pontiac. If you do not have the original carb base gasket how do you know which is correct for the carb since there a couple to choose from? I guess I'm trying to figure out if I will be covering up any air passages that shouldn't be if I just use a 4 hole gasket.

1957-65 Pontiac AFB´s uses the one to the left, #1A-124.
1966-67 Pontiac AFB´s uses the one to the right, #1A-226.
1960 (Special) and 1961 Tempest Super Duty uses #1A-119 with the preheating slot ahead of the primary ports and steel baffle on top of gasket.

The 4242S is a 1967 Pontiac 400 Carter AFB.

Kenth - Carter shows 1967 to use 1A-256.

Jon, correct, no picture in the Carter manual of the 1A-256 flange gasket.
Since the 1966 and 1967 Pontiac AFB intakes are much the same i have found the 1A-226 works well on the 1967 intake manifold.

Do you have a picture on the 1A-256 gasket?

Thanks, Kenth

1A-256 is 1/4 inch thick. Resembles 1A-226, but without the 4 bleed holes.
