I just learned of a local guy with a 3D printing business who is cranking out a steady stream of masks, most of which he has given away. He has set a $7 price on them to hopefully buy materials in larger quantities. I believe a donation to him of any "bailout" money I might receive would be worthwhile.

For an interesting comparison, look up the 'swine flu' pandemic. Some statistics say it infected over a billion people with 18,000 deaths. WHO estimates that 250,000-500,000 people die annually from the seasonal flu.
There were close to 400 gun violence deaths in Baltimore city alone last year. Yet none of these events 'closed the world'!

A stay at home order starts in Minnesota at midnight Friday and lasts for two weeks, but they haven't ruled out extending it if necessary.

Came in from garage early after get'n a chill an a slight headache. I don't get headaches hardly ever.
Got a afghan and layed on couch.
Woke up every half hour sweating. Then a cold chill after 5 mins uncovered. Lasted bout 12 hrs then felt fine.
May have had slight fever, never checked.
Good thing wife was asleep in bedroom, if she knew would of had a fit about not going to hospital.

Live in a "medium-size" NC town.
Went in Walmart around 5:30pm to get some stuff to take to my mother.
5:30 would normally be about the worst time to go (congestion).

Easy parking
Noted the cereal shelves were sparse, bottled water semi-sparse
Plenty of milk and eggs and bread
0 toilet paper - 0 paper towels , whole aisle was 0 empty

Gas was $1.49

My overview -
people are sh!tting all over themselves because gas is so cheap

The whole thing with the paper products is classic animal panic, very disappointing to see. People horded the stuff for no other reason than that other people were hoarding it.

Unfortunately proves the point that when the SHTF ... the majority of people are no better than mindless animals.

We are on a shutdown here in the city and province. But the powers that be have said that people are not distancing themselves and we have a lot of new cases over the last couple of days. So now they are talking about a lockdown.

No shortages, though. All of that stuff is back to normal. But the grocery stores have limited hours.

I haven't had - or wanted - a working TV for 10 years now.
Way out of the loop on a high majority of current events, but the biggest things trickle down to me sooner or later usually.

While visiting my mother - she said the whole state of NC is about to go on shutdown or lockdown starting Friday.
And something about all non-essential businesses forcing to shut down, and government is going to pay everyone's salary in the meanwhile.

Not sure how accurate she is about all that.
But some of it sounds impossible.

On the way home last night, coming back into my town -
noticed the internet casino type places were closed with no cars in the lot -for the first time ever.
And the 24 Hour Gym (Workout Anytime) was closed with no cars -for the first time ever.
The other 24 Hour Gym (Planet Fitness) closed about a week ago.

So something different is going into effect here.

The politicians seem to think that if they tell everyone to stay home that it will be impossible for cases to increase if everyone is still going out to the grocery stores, takeout restaurants, liquor stores, gas stations, pot stores, etc.

So, when cases "skyrocket" by 5%, they can use that as an excuse to take more draconian measures - because obviously people aren't listening.

First THANK YOU for the job you do here,

I think this thread is a valuable personal insight into this situation as it gives snapshots of personal experience across the country, If you can make an extra effort to deal with the bad posts while keeping this thread open, I think it is important. Please & thanks.

To fellow PY'ers, we all are passionate about stuff now. Do not let a personal need to make a point deprive us of this thread. Go to the clubhouse. Or like me, a local FB page where I joust with people politically. (or some other social media place if not FB).

We are all in this together..................

Lots of people had been infected with COVID-19 and thought they had "a bad cold" or influenza, took OTC stuff for their symptoms, and went on with life.
New Orleans is climbing rapidly on numbers of people who test positive for COVID-19, and most agree that was because of the MASS of people who came here for Mardi Gras, in THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS OF FEBRUARY. So there were people jammed into the bars, restaurants, crowded parade routes, etc.
Keep that date range in mind, and the end of it, but the biggest day was FEBRUARY 25TH.
So now about 4 weeks later, we've gone from a few cases, to a few hundred, to over 1,000.
That's how long COVID-19 has "been around", at least since the last week or so of February.
On another important note, the Veterans Administration hospital in New Orleans has been treating their COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine and azithromyacin, FOR WEEKS that is what they have SUCCESSFULLY been using, so it's not just "promising" IT'S PROTOCOL!

I guess that's the downside of the state spending your money for you Jack. You know they are much smarter than a mere citizen when it comes to spending your money for you.................LOL
