Don't have any pics of it. But, in my home town, all the Musclecars bought AMOCO "white gas", at Golden's American station. So, my '69 & all the other GTO's in town bought gas there at one time or another. AMOCO was about $.49 per gal, during the late '60's.

Many of the Musclecars, and I'm sure many Pontiacs, also bought gas, on occasion, at the Rose Oil station. Gas was $.29 there, back in the '60's. Hey, those with a VW bug could ride around "the loop" in our town all Sat afternoon & night on a dollars worth of Rose Oil gas.

As for the tow vehicle, I went to Houston & bought a '68 4-door Caddy, to tow my '69 GTO to the races, in '73. It was plenty heavy & the 472 had plenty of power for towing. Don't have a full pic of the Caddy. But, you can see the tail end of it in the 1st pic. Also shows the tow bar, hooked to my Goat. In lookin for that pic, I also found the 2nd pic. It was made at the same time as the 1st. TJ took it by standing on the trunk lid of the Caddy.

The 3rd pic is of an American oil station. Our local station had a building which looked a lot like this one. But, it was a little smaller & they only had 2 pumps. One had reg American gas. The other had high octane AMOCO "white gas". I assume the "white" referred to it's lack of color, because of being unleaded.

This was at Newton, Iowa on my way to POCI this summer in Wisconsin Dells.
These 2 Guys were from Utah in that awesome 58. I never did see the car at POCI, anyone? The guy in picture was getting me a handout out of the back seat explaining the benefits of Mormanism...I didn't argue with him...wanted to remain friendly...

Took trip mostly so my good friend could go. He and his wife had moved back to Iowa in Oct 2017 so he could be closer to family in his later years ( he had Parkinson's). They moved to Oklahoma in 1982, as many did because of job market at that time.
Sadly he passed away in August. His wife said he had a great time at POCI. I did not perceive him enjoying it much, he had such difficulty getting around, and doing anything...including sleeping..

RA3

Ordered it in early '69. 3.90, close ratio 4-speed, AM/FM radio with rear speaker, bench seat, and that's about it.

Drove 60k + street miles, then raced it in '73-'74. Best ET in '73 was 13.95, with hard rubber street tires. With stickier legal drag tires, it ran consistent mid 13's in '74. Engine was all original, except for replacement timing set, for the plastic teeth set, which stripped before 50k miles.

I assume it would have run low 13's, with the 4.33 gears. But, since it was to be my daily driver, I went with the 3.90's. Probably a real good decision. For '75, I had it rebuilt with a 350hp Lunati cheater cam, and changed to 4.56 gears. Ran high 12's, in E/S.

Nope.

Last raced it in '87. Quit racing after '88 season. It just sat around here, in the very humid Louisiana weather and began to rust. I sold it for $500, in the early '90's, before rusty GTO's were worth anything. They were just old, rusty, worthless cars to most people, especially in my area.

And this one had a gutted out interior, no engine/trans, and a rear end with 5.13 gears & a mini-spool. Not much to work with, for someone wanting a street car.

Now, later on, in this century, there would be some who would see it as an original RA3 car, that would be worth something if restored correctly. Times & car valves have changed.

At the time I sold it, I could have bought a real nice restored '69 GTO MUCH cheaper than I could have possibly restored mine for, because of it's condition, and the going price for GTO's.

I'd like to have a nice DD '69 GTO, especially a black Judge clone. But, until I win the big lottery, that probably want happen.

Those Caddy's with the big fins bring back good memories. When I was in the 11th & 12th grades, my basketball coach had one. Don't remember the year model. Just remember that it did have the fins.

He would carry us players who were on the starting 5, to many of the games. We could discuss plays & plans for the game, on the way there, as well as discussing things that happened during the game, on the trip back home.

Before I had done any racing, those basketball games were some of the biggest thrills of my life. During my high school years B-ball was a BIG part of my life. I loved it. I would probably have been better at football. But, our little school did not have a football team.

It was also during these high school years that I became aware of the GTO, & wallpapered my room with GTO ads & posters. Also got to see real GTO's makin the loop in our little country town. Probably saw several of 'em pulled up to a gas pump, too.

Here's some pictures of my White 1971 Trans Am, which was raced by the first owner. He didn't use a trailer either, he towed the car to the racetrack behind his Lucy Blue 71 trans am. After being retired from racing in the mid-70's, it was stored indoors for many years, so it still only has 17K miles on it. The last picture is of the car as it is now.

I had a '63 Impala myself. First car, red on red. I still have a soft spot for the '61-'64 Impalas.
