Yep, Appliance Park which clothed and fed me as a child. GE washer transmissions are not as durable as they used to be; too much plastic in the actual drive. Additionally, GE used Teflon strips where other manufacturers use actual bearings.

I don't think they make my model anymore, but I have a Fisher & Paykel top loader that has this really cool direct drive pancake motor about 12" in diameter, no gear box, no agitator, all the speeds and reverse etc, controlled by electronics with no moving parts other than the armature of the motor ... which is the wash basket .... been working about 12 years now. I did have to pull it apart and grease a part in the water pump that was squealing, was a known problem, did it about 10 years ago and no problem since.

There's only two or three washers with different names.

If you buy new make sure you unplug them after using, our last Whirlpool Calico had three computers in it!! We got 10 years out of it. I had to fix it four times.. We bought a new lower priced Amana and it works just as good as the thousand dollar washer..

The best is the washers the laundry mats use, they will last you and your family a life time.

The best used to be Maytag. My aunt and uncle bought a set in 1959 for enough money to buy a good used car but they lasted a lifetime for the both of them..

Near 5 year old SpeedQueen Commercial Heavy Duty here, great machine, no issue washing bulky comforters, packing blankets. Wish we had bought it a few years earlier when my sons primary position in tournament ball was catcher. Ton of time spent washing his filthy white & gray uniform pants. Previous Whirlpool Toploader made it less than 4 years & new was only a few hundred less than the SpeedQueen.

I've had a Frigidaire front load (with knobs) and Kenmore electric dryer (with knobs) for about 15 years. No problems. Three years ago my daughter bought a five year old house with appliances. Samsung front loader and electric dryer, both with electronic controls, so eight years old. So far just minor trouble with the dryer. Didn't want to spin. I spun the drum around a couple of times by hand, then it ran fine. Okay so far.
Both of those front loaders have no problem holding a laundry basket/hamper size load.

Timely. Wife just mentioned our washer takes forever to fill last night. It's a Kenmore 700 Series and probably 20+ years old. Cleaned the inlet screens and works like a charm again. Dodged a bullet.

Default SpeedQueen it is!

Spent all day getting this thing installed. Kicked my old butt.

Got to love hard water. New hoses are SS. Wife's daughter tried to talk her out of this and I told her I didn't want a big box store China made crap that won't last 5 years. This one should outlive us and let our kids fight over it. lol

Top load with knobs and an agitator. We have an LG without the agitator and it seams it really doesn’t wash well. The wife even noticed.😁

My 15-year-old Kenmore top loader (which I think is actually a Whirlpool) quit spinning a few months ago...a few YouTube videos and a $40 clutch later, it's spinning away, so I'd say we did OK so far.

We as car guys will tackle a machine repair, most of the general pop ether buys a new one or calls a repairman only to be told not worth fixing. I replaced a belt in a dryer once and couldn't believe all the deadly sharp edges inside that thing. One thing I noticed about this new washer right away was it was much heavier than the Whirlpool it replaced. The new one is so quiet. The locking lid and "safety" delays between modes are a pain though.

I must be a truly lucky guy.

I have a 15 year old refrigerator, dishwasher, wall oven, microwave and cooktop as well as 10 year old front load electronic laundry equipment and actually enjoy having modern technology appliances.

I'm glad I don't have the luck that many of you do.

They sell matching drawer bases to raise them up. I have them under my Samsung front loaders. Very handy, I keep the detergent, bleach, fabric softener and prewash stain remover under mine.

Both units have been service-free for 10 years now and do a great job of cleaning and the wrinkle release setting does just that. No ironing if you go straight from drier to hanger. Of course the washer is very water efficient by design.

Default Samsung's

We went threw the same issue 2 years ago. I wanted normal knob control and she wanted the new Samsungs -Direct drive and biggest RPM spin cycle. she won the decision and we - even me love them.. But still would prefer to have simple knob control for when and if issues happen.

Bought a new Whirlpool dishwasher and after a couple of months it started making noise, under warranty but looked under the machine to find powdery stuff piling up in the center, called a tech out to be fixed under warranty the tech started griping about all the inferior LG parts in it.

I have a new Kenmore washer and dryer, you know all efficient and uses much less water. I use white terry towels to wipe down my cars after washing. Using those towels would leave streaks on the paint surface on especially my black cars and dark blue cars. I decided to take the towels out of the washer after they were finished and take them down to my shop / garage and run them through a cycle without soap on my old 1964 Maytag washer. You should have seen the soap that was still left in the towels.

the problem with front loaders is they are almost impossible to fix for some reason. if you find a repair man, good luck on that! they wont work on them. this from my retired appliance guy.

OH, I forgot to mention when I bought the new Kenmore washer and dryer. The washer is a top loader and ALL the new machines are taller and stick out further from the wall. That meant I had to push them closer to the laundry sink ( they just barely fit) so you could open the laundry door! And the worst part was I had to take down and install a new ledger to move the cabinets higher so the lid on the top loader could open! And my house is not a old one.

SPEED QUEEN and only speed queen. Ask any repair man. All steel with heavy duty manual switches and timer, you'll never need another one. Not cheap at $950. All old school USA quality but it will last a lifetime.. check them out, 3 models TR3, TR4, TR5
