Catalina Steering Box Options
Just got done replacing all the front and rear bushings, ball joints and tie rods on my 64 Catalina. It’s now apparent that the steering box needs some help also. Did some searching on the forum and it appears that the JGC, 2nd gen Fbody and other boxes will fit as an upgrade. Just wanted to double check and make sure that these boxes will in fact bolt up in the rear steer Catalina. I know about the need for metric adapters and new rag joint.

The one thing to consider though in one of our cars is there is a different limit to the turning stops in the F-body steering box. It is my understanding that if you install a F-body steering box in our cars, you will not be able to turn as sharply. You can go into the box and change these limits, but it's a headache. I have heard that the JGC, A-body cars, etc. have a steering limit similar to ours, so no problem there. I installed a '70 442/SS/GS/GTO variable-ratio steering box in my '64 GP.

Use a mid 1970's box.

Or just send your box to Lares Corp. in Cambridge Mn. and have it rebuilt.

I would talk to Turn One and see if a 600 series Delphi type box fits - I cannot stress enough the improvement it is over the Saginaws, GC or otherwise.

Do they make a manual Delphi box that will fit a 63 Lemans?

I do not know - you would need to ask Turn One...

I have a 670 built by Lee for my TA. Not looking to get into all that on the Catalina. Just looking to replace the old worn box and get a little upgrade at the same time. I think I'm going to try a Lares rebuild from Rock Auto.

Mine doesn't drive yet so no feedback on how well it works.
