Stupid jack question
I'm definitely missing something here (I mean, apart from the mini spare)..
How does this all mount? 1971 Trans Am.. I can see the two mount points but the jack column isn't even long enough to reach from the one to the other.. Sam

There are holes in the bumpers that the "hook" fits into to jack up the car. You are missing the lug wrench.

I have always found that a small crank type scissor jack pirated from a small car to work better and be far easier and safer + overall take up less room!

The way I read this thread is 'how were original jacks stowed?'

At this location is the trunk sticker, but not real clear on stowage.
Sorry, couldn't upload the image. If memory serves (from about 50 years ago), the bottom plate went on top of the spare, screwed down solidly. The upright was held underneath, I thought with a bracket on the trunk pan. (Mine was replaced without it so can't say for sure). Last edited by neilfreeb; 02-17-2020 at 11:26 AM. Hmm.. Now that's a bigger mystery. So it seems there should be some sort of bracket between the two you see in my picture. One that the spare should mount on. And it looks like I'm also missing the upright threaded piece and the big wing nut. But more puzzling to me is I don't even have a hole in my carpet where the centre of that wheel would be. All I can really see is those two brackets. And they are both look like they are for the jack shaft but they are further apart than the jack is long..
OK. Anyway, looks like I don't have enough bits to hold down the ones I do.. Sam
