Default WW2 1911

I scored a really nice 1943 Remington-Rand 1911 yesterday ,it’s in excellent original condition . So do I at least shoot it once ? What would you guys do ? I passed up on one made by Union Switch & Signal years ago and always regretted it , so I jumped pretty hard at this one .

That looks to be in great condition! I have the same Bakelite grips and a few other parts for one of the same era. My late father served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. That was his duty sidearm, and I have framed documentation of him being awarded Marksman status. Ironically he said it was not an accurate gun. I guess he was better than the gun.

Regardless, those are valuable hand guns, and I wish I had his today.

I don't know that I would shoot it a bunch, but I'd probably run a few magazines of ball ammo through it just to say I'd shot it. Then I would clean it and put it away for safe keeping.

Nice score!

That is a real classic and that 1911 design was and is greatness.

Glad you showed a pic. I had no idea what you were talking about. It does look to be in great condition. I had many of those as a child, of course they were toys.

Interesting dilemma. I've had the same question about my wife's Grandfather's Army issue .45 DA Revolver. Pre 1911, in pretty nice original condition but not perfect condition. Definitely has more wear than the one you've pictured here. No one in her family wanted it so her Uncle left it to me. Also stamped U.S, Army with a lanyard ring on the butt. I've always been hesitant to fire it.

Very fond spot for 1911's. THAT is a super nice survivor one, and cool different brand. I had a WWII one in the 70's I totally tricked out as that was thing to do. Now I would keep "as-is".

Nice find!! Of course you need to shot a couple of mags of ball through it.

Them toys like this one?

Life size that would get you in trouble now a days. Carried this one to school and played army with my buddies at recess. Mid 60's was a different time.

Owning such a firearm and not shooting it should be criminal.

Never had one with a removable magazine (I guess that's what its called), but yea, we killed plenty of ****s growing up! My brothers are a bit older than myself and I can vaguely remember them getting toy rifles one Christmas, They were M-1's I think and had a bolt that worked and they shot a rubber bullet. The guys were just a year apart and would get into and tear anything up. They have told me stories that the bullets quickly disappeared from the rifles after they kept shooting each other.

I think I’ll run just a few mags through it then . I put my Garand back together after some maintenance , so I think I’ll take them out when the weather gets a bit better . I’ve had the M1 for many years and just recently have became interested in it . I’m pretty bored with the AR platform . These old war horses have really sparked my interest . You’d be surprised how many people can’t make a shot with Iron sights . It’s all flat top ar’s and scopes & laser dots .

It seemed to have survived nicely, to this point, having been fired and cared for. If you do the same, no reason not to go shoot it. Keep in mind the ammo that was around when it was made and run something similar.

I've got old and new and shoot them all. I don't care what it is,if it's in good/ safe condition to shoot it will be shot. If I want to shoot something alot I do stick with the newer stuff. That looks like a beautiful pistol.
