Default Weird situation with Google Maps and Waze.

I have two properties that are about 1.2 miles apart. My house is at 6635 XYZ road and my shop is at 7300 XYZ road.(XYZ is not the actual name of the road)

My brother came to visit a couple months ago, and said that they had put my home address into G maps on his Wife's phone and instead of taking them to my house, it directed them to my shop.

He tried G maps on his phone and it showed correct directions to my house.

He then tried Waze for directions to my house and Waze directed him to my shop instead.

He came back this weekend and the same thing happened again.

I have tried G maps on my Android phone and sometimes it directs me to my house and sometimes to my shop.

I am not surprised that G maps or Waze occasionally take people the wrong location, but I am totally confused that they direct people to MY other address, not just the general area, but it actually tells you to turn into the driveway to my shop.

Also weird that G maps on different phones(they both have Iphones) in the same car, at the same time, show different directions.

Has anyone ever encountered or heard about this type of situation?

Any suggestions on how I might get G maps, Waze, and potentially other Map Apps to provide the correct directions?

Thanks, Joel

Garmin might get them there.

Physical Tiwn might help more than Post office. Zip Codes matter. Had similar issure with Shipping ebay to a po-dunk address in 2019. UPS shipping SW has plural destinations and we had to assess the desired one.

Hmmmm, we could trade Parts in the Spring.

Sounds like you need to start giving directions the old fashioned way.

But seriously, I’d bet if you posted your addresses, it would be clear why there’s confusion.

I have similar problems, mainly because my road - less than a mile away, crosses over from one county to another. It also changes names and house numbering sequence. I stress to people that they need to listen to my words and not the GPS, because my house number doesnt exist if they use GPS.

In other news, I happened on to some discussion of flooding in KY - and during the conversation, looked up my mother-in-laws "old" house she used to have ... to see if it was affected. Satellite view is fairly current, but street view got a shot of her in the yard with her ass in the air. Total win for Google Street View:

Thanks for the replies.

I used GPS for work, a lot "in the early days of GPS" and I got wrong directions quite often. Getting misdirected is NO SURPRISE WHATSOEVER, incorrect directions are still fairly common, but definitely less than it was a few years ago.

When the GPS gave me wrong directions, I usually called the person and they would often say GPS does not work for finding their house, but I NEVER had anyone say: "IT TOOK YOU TO ANOTHER PROPERTY THAT I OWN."

You might have a bigger issue going on if you need google to find your way home!

But seriously, I use my trusty ole garmin. My wife just recently started using ways on her phone and it seems to do ok. I have a customer that has a large farm with multiple addresses on the same property, its a nightmare when I need a delivery. It seems like one address will work one day and then not the next day.

[QUOTE=TAKerry;6110081]You might have a bigger issue going on if you need google to find your way home!

Well, I had better not NEED Google to find my way home, because it probably won't take me there.

I had several different versions of Garmin provided through work for years. They never found my house correctly and would provide directions to a different location(that I did not own) about 2 miles in the opposite direction of my other(shop) property. Others who would try to find my house with Garmin reported getting directed to the same(wrong) location, so I assume it was a map error that they eventually corrected.

I stopped using Garmin for work about 5 years ago, but had my own Garmin unit. About 3 or 4 years ago my Garmin started giving correct directions to my house after I did a map update.

Wrong directions = No surprise.

Directions to a totally wrong location, THAT I OWN = WTF is going on????

I would find a unique point near where you want them to be, then instruct them to set the phone/GPS/Garmin/ star map to guide them in from there.

Those maps are finicky.....I can plot a destination and then plot the return trip home from that same destination and I get a different result. I've made sure to turn off any of the aides on traffic and construction etc...but it still happens. They basically take you the way they want and hope you dont know any better.

Generally speaking, if you zoom in on the mapping programs, they "know" the names of businesses on the map. It's probably not much of a stretch to think they'll be learning the people who own each property. Then there's some sort of confused electrons that mix your properties by your name.

It feels kinda Big Brother-ish.

I see you're in Bedford, must be the area! I admit the maps are out of date on my garmin, but one of the times I remember distinctly of it not working properly was on a trip I took to Erie. I was in the wilderness of north/central west PA and it had no idea where I was going. It just kept showing the car in the middle of nowhere and searching for satellite?

I always do that. I enjoy seeing how creative my nav system can get as it never sends me back the same way I came.

That is kind of what I am thinking.

Makes it even weirder that G Maps for my SIL and G Maps for my Brother gave directions to different locations while en-route in the same vehicle.

Both of my properties are easy to find with verbal directions, but very few people use verbal directions these days so it would be nice if I could get Google, or whoever controls this stuff, to correct this situation, but I am hesitant to draw attention to myself, by contacting them, because of concerns that things might get even weirder, if they "try to fix it".
