Default Romac balancer

Looking to build a 450-500 HP ?? street motor.
Is Butlers Romac acceptable or is there something better ?
Throw out your pennies gentleman.
Thanks, OGR

What RPM range is it tuned for? What RPM range are you likely to spin that engine?

Very nice balancers. Have one on my 400 w stock pan which needed a little work. Have another on my 467 w aftermarket pan that I shift at 6k.

Just keep this in mind, the bigger the stroke, or the more rpm, or the combination of both calls for a heavier then stock Balancer, HP levels have nothing to do with it!
This very true for a cast Crank motor where you want to keep from forcing it to have to flex!

The balancing of the Crank itself is where HP levels ( cylinder pressure levels ) and other factors are dealt with as best as possible!

I thought the romac had fitment issues, like hitting the pan lip and timing cover, and pulley bolt pattern? I used the Pro/Race 64275 SFI unit, fits like stock but is 9lbs and is SFI rated. Have not fired the engine but it fit perfectly.

I have one and looked nice in the box but had issues also with figment. It was 0.0015 to small. That was a pain to get rectified. Next as mentioned had to grind the timing cover a little not impressed. I would think that some type of information sheet should have been provided on modifications. The vendor I used said ya this is common.
It is nice unit but be prepared for a little work.

I posted in the other thread. I have used the Romac for many years on my 421 combos. Spin it 7200-7300 every time out. Never had an issue. Did have to bend the lip pan a small amount.

64275 is the same # as a Summit balancer. $428.99
I have 3 of those on 3 different motors.

I've ran the Romac balancer for years on my street car with a stroked 400(461), and have never had an issue. I have the Romac that is Steel with the Aluminum outer ring. Very nice balancer in my opinion, and fit great, it did require just a tiny bit of bending of the lip on the front of the oil pan, but is a super easy fix that can be done in a few minutes. I also run the billet Rollmaster Timing Set(same company), very nice as well, and uses the IWIS chain.

You may also want to consider a Powerbond SFI balancer. It's also a nice piece. I have one in a 500 hp street motor for 7 years and no problems. Fits perfect and accepts stock pulleys.

Are Pioneer balancers any good? Specically the Pioneer-872011 street balancer and the Pioneer-872031 race balancer. Thanks, all.
