Holden finished downunder
GM today announced that Holden is finished
This has been predicted and not a big surprise. GM dropped the ball downunder buy not keeping up with motor trends, their sales dropped %40 the past 12 months, they imported crap from south Korea, I was a Holden man for all my life and my current ride is a Calais (Commodore), which is same as Pontiac G8 GT, They have to guarantee parts and service for the next 10 years . They seem to blaming the fact that RHD cars are part of the problem?? Another 600 jobs lost. Thanks for nothing GM and good riddance John L Sent from my SM-T585 using Tapatalk

600 jobs can make production cars? wow. Anyway that sounds like a big loss.
Remember we lost Saturn, Pontiac, Olds, all too recently |

They closed the Oshawa plant here. Often referred to as the highest quality and most competetive plant. Many feel that it was a political move, given that they are closing US plants as well. And now their sales are way down in Canada. Go figure. Bye-Bye GM. Your product offering is crap anyways and I can't think of one new GM vehicle that I'd want to buy. Even Kia is a more desirable brand and companies like that flourish while GM subsedes.

Read this. news yesterday . Its.sad.that poor management cant keep.the brand.competetive enough to stay in buisiness. GM is still faltering, looks like they need another new manager. Hows their stock doing ?

I can't believe GM is that stupid to close Oshawa. Well I do believe it.... they closed St. Therese back in 2002.
An electric Hummer. Miles per charge will be worse than miles per gallon were for it.

Yes..
Ford pulled out years ago, and also Toyota, Australia no longer has a car manufacturer, we import everything, We did build some nice cars and did export them, Bit of a sad day as all ozzies did drive and grow up with locally built cars. John L. Sent from my SM-T585 using Tapatalk

Why did all of the auto manufacturing end? It seemed like Holden built some really cool cars. HSV makes a cool Colorado called a Sporsts Cat that looks really nice. I wish we could get that here in US. I wish we could have gotten the Ute there but was going to be called the G8ST here.

This could be a real problem for all '04 - '06 GTO and all G8 owners. Holden builds vehicles that, in most part, totally different than any other GM vehicle and that is where the problem lies. Late model GTO and G8 owners will have a very difficult time finding Holden specific parts in the near future.

If I am not mistaken.....the only choice for a car or truck buyer is an imported model. No local choices as far as I have heard... Very sad. The Holden build quality was very high.....some of the best engineered and assembled vehicles I have ever seen for a mass produced vehicle. |

Wonder if the Aussie auto talent could be organized to re-make proven styles; DeLoreans, old A-body, F-body styles using modern stuff.

I was in AU around 15 years ago. Visited Holden and parts suppliers to Holden (metal stampers). Even then the writing was on the wall. BTW, great trip, nice people, and good food!

600 Aussies can. In America, it would take 3 or 4 times as many. Every Aussie I've ever met was tough as nails and had a great sense of humor, to boot. Hardy folks.

Every year at Portland Swap Meet, there are.3 aussie's that come over and l.camp next.to our spaces, and buy a ton of parts. They put it in a container and.ship it home. All resold down under. These guys are good people and fun to be around. Looking forward to having some more.fun.along with some
beverages with them. (Sorry for being off topic) |
