I'd bet that if you grind the edelbrock off the rpm intake, and paint it to match the engine, 99% of the rest of the world wouldn't catch it. (I hope not too much first hand experience on that didn't reveal uh, some money making past on me. )

Grind off all the Edlebrock BS on your heads and use JB weld to sculpt or mould factory casting stuff on to it. Just like the do with all the BBC chevells and corvetts that bring big bucks at Bare it and Jack'em

Those would be perfect. If the non sleeper engine was in the car instead of in the shop with a bit more on the bill, I would say I will take em. Could camoflage a set of headers pretty well. And they could also end up on a 71 Formula 455 HO clone, since the 72 version is already here..
Wish I had more money. Tell the Gov to let the VA pay us more.. |

Pontirag; Are you referring to the 50 more LS6 chevies that have been sold on that block than was ever built, or the relettered alum. c.o.p.o. chevies in which 20 more than ever existed has crossed that stage?
Yeah, it amazes me how that is done right out in the open too. |

My wifes 71 Firebird : 455 , 6x-8 heads . 8.9 -1 Comp , Stock rods,stock intake , RA Manifolds 2 1/2 exhaust , Of the shelf Comp Cams soild roller ( small street cam ), Th 400 and 3.42 gears. This year car ran a best of 12.19 at 111 mph.
We run this car on 89 octane and drive it to the track. It weighs 3885 lbs with my wife in the car and 3/4 tank of fuel. Look stock accept for Holley carb. It also gets 12 mpg. |

Sounds seriously cool Fireduck.. imagine if it was 2800lbs..
You can get it somewhat lighter and still keep the nice stuff... |

The car is a lot of fun. I race at a track that is 42 miles each way from my house. I will race it quite a bit when my wife decides not to go racing. It is great to just jump in the car go.
I also have a 70 Firebird I race and need to trailer. There are times I consider making mine more like my wife's car. Pump gas, no trailering and can drive it all day long. Lots of FUN ! |

The type of engine you guys are refering to is not unlike my bracket engine.70 455 four bolt block,.060 TRWs,Cat 6.625 H beams, 197s ported by Whittmore with welded crossovers,Norris 1.65 SS rollers, titainium retainers,RAIV undercut stem valves,Ultrydyne solid roller.626 lift(with 1.5 rockers)264-.271 on a 106LC,9.3 comppression. It ran a best of 11.27 with a 1.50 600 foot with a Warrior and a tenth slower with a Victor.I have a RPM and a T2 and would like to experiment with them but our season is over.My next engine is probly going to be a 505 pump gas motor.Have to decide which aftermarket block to go with my forged 4.25 crank. Also which rods to go with, billet or aluminum.I want to see if I can make 750-800 HP with a pump gas reliable low maintenance type motor.

Anyone remember the aftermarket iron RAIV heads Butler was going to build awhile back. They were supposed to flow 290cfm as cast. That along with a dished piston and the longest practical rod would seem to be the ultimate setup as far as a sleeper combo.Whatever happend to the heads,he made the repo RAIV intake??

I think the cost to market was more than they wanted it to be. I do think if the new heads could get nhra approved that it would seriously increase the power of stock class and S/S RAIV cars. But most likely if a head done the way chevy guys have done by using gm part numbered but never came on a production car head was avalible for Pontiacs, hell would have to freeze over before they could be used.

Ram Air III/445
- 1967 Pontiac 400 block, read it has somewhat thicker cylinder walls, so perhaps 4.21 bore (0.090 overbore), with SCAT 4" forged steel crankshaft for 3" journal blocks, MOLNAR 6.7 PWR ADR rods
- 1967-1972 intake, with large valve d-port heads with porting work, whether lower compression in the 9.2 range, with cylinder head chambers at about 95 cc, such as 1971 "96", 1972 "7K3", or high compression with about 12.14 for 65 cc heads (stock 72ish milled) such as 1968 "16", 1969 "48" or"62", 1970 "12", "13"., for some higher ethanol content fuel blend, as would be feasible with a built quadrajet, or more radically, fuel injection. It really is terrible that fuel regulation sanctions grossly laxly labeled and not all that available "E-85" which implies 85% ethanol but actually varies from only 83% to 51%, yet NOT labeled, like the like of any octane labeling, a giveaway of the reality that "flex fuel" is more accurately "flexible recipe fuel".. - reproduction Ram Air II style exhaust manifolds with the 2.5" outlets. - (if manual transmission) M23Z guts in an original M-21 case and rear gear swap to say 3.07. Wow! Thread pops up 13 years later!
In that time this stock appearing Pontiac has run down into the 9s! (without nitrous!)
