This is why I think that the 1377 number that is touted as "The Number" of Can Am's produced is more like the 1100 most of us believe.

Yes, that is what has been understood. However, my belief is that a few were converted after the fact at the dealers with the parts/decals that Evans Automotive/Motortown supplied just to try to satisfy as many of the 5000 orders as they could. This might explain why so many of these cars are still seen for sale, on the internet, and in the Verne Howard official registry. Who really knows how many were really made.

Jim Mattison would know. Question is, who is going to pay him to go through every document from '77 to determine how many factory built Can-Am's there were?

Question

Checking the PHS docs would be a huge undertaking, but it would not involve checking every 1977 document. We know that the first Can Ams have a VIN sequence in the 250xxx range, ending somewhere in the 42xxxx range. However, that will answer how many white Sport Coupes were produced for the Can Am conversion, but that will not prove how many were converted. Documents from Motortown would prove how many they converted, but that does not answer "if" any or how many were converted by a third party. Where does one draw the line?

Default Two more choices.

The gentleman from Chicago is right. Everyone would like to have it close to home. The guy from Maryland is right too. there are a lot more Pontiacs in the Northeast and Midwest. This is a big country.
I've never been to Norwalk but I understand that it is the biggest Pontiac event in the country. Would a Cam Am reunion be over shadowed by all the racing and other activities? POCI is a big all Pontiac event but not that big. The Smoky Mountain Chapter of POCI has their Show the first week of June in Gatlinburg. I can contact them to see if they have interest in having a reunion there.
My club, Alabama Chapter of POCI has our show scheueled for May 19th at the superspeedway in Talladega. That may be a little too far south for youse guys but we would throw out the red carpet for a Can Am Reunion.
I'll try and get in touch with Verne and see what POCI thinks of this. If any of you know the folks at Norwalk or Ames get in touch with them to see if they have any interest. We have plenty of choices now but time will slip by fast. Just my thoughts.

Verne has already expressed that he's been in touch with Pete Woodruff, the promoter of the Norwalk event. I don't think it would be overshadowed at Norwalk. Having a GMC class at Norwalk, now THAT'S overshadowed (LOL).

I too, am just waiting for a date and place. I don't think I would want to drive my car more than 400-500 miles. It sat for 4 years before I bought it, and now it's been almost another year with me. I'm working on it steady, but just a lot of stuff to do. Once we have a set date and place, that will determine if I drive or fly. David

Tulsa would be fine with me. I doubt my CA would make it any further than T-town. I will have to work my ass off to even get it going even for that trip. LOL.

I live about 60 miles north of West Palm Beach, FL. It's as far south as any Can Am owner is, to my knowledge. If the reunion is in Tulsa, I'm there. If it's at Norwalk, I'm there. Naturally, I'd love to see it held in Gatlinburg or at Talledega, but wherever it is, I plan to attend. As Brian said, there's only one 30th anniversary, and Jim Wangers ( ) isn't getting any younger. I'd like for him to autograph my Can Am as well. I'd like to meet as many of you that I've talked with over the last several years as I can. So wherever it is, count me in.

I just hope it's done by then...it may not be pretty, but it'll be there, if I can arrange it.

Wish me luck, as I am heading for Il. very early in the morning to pick up my newest addition.

At the end of the month, I am heading to Va. to pick up Can Am 2.

Yup, that would be the one. It will be a good 4 speed conversion candidate.

Coming thru Chicago or are you taking the Southern route thru Indy.
Trailering it or driving it back.
I was interested in this car also since it was only about 180 miles away.

Very, very nice car !!!!!!!!!
