Looks kinda rough, but not gone. As rare as it is, it would be worth saving.

I can't tell you the last time I saw a 1st gen G/A 4 door, let alone a 4spd G/A 4dr.

I saw a 2dr 1973 G/A 4spd car at a local show a few weeks ago & knew it was pretty rare. I snapped some pics of it...

Just to prevent any confusion, the green 4-door photos are not of the car I have looked at. The one I may get, or will at least help my cousin sell, is silver and is in good survivor condition - no rust....
I am still 2500 miles away from the car, but will get photos to share as soon as I can. If it goes up for sale, I will post it here first....

Well *I* would seriously consider buying it. Depending on his price naturally, some people think their car is worth a small fortune ;-)

Question Are You 4 Real?

At first, I said not interested in a 4-door anything, but he continued that he ordered it new from my Dad's dealership, and it is a 4-speed, 400 - 4 bbl, A/C car. So now I am interested. Original paint (silver) with a very nice red bucket seat interior (carpet is worn, but rest is very nice). Car has always been inside, and is really good. 106k miles - all original paperwork. Runs, drives fine, A/C does not work. No rust, no damage.

Anyone ever seen a 4-door 4-speed Grand Am? Any thoughts on value? My first thought is it has to be rare, but that does not equate to valuable to me for this year and model. Tough to find any details on 4-door Grand Am production.

Any help is much apprciated.
Mike
How about a posting of the car you are talking about and NOT another photo of a car that is not yours (green 4-door)?

If you don't know it by now, most all here will and desire to assist in getting the word out on your REAL 1973 4-door, 4-spd Grand Am.

Alvin -

CDN2PLS2 posted the photo of the green car, not me. I just wanted to clarify that the green car is not the one I looked at.

I also posted several times that I am in Alaska, where I live, and the car is not, and I will get photos next time I am in the lower 48. The car has been in the garage for years and years, and is not going anywhere. I will either buy it from my 70 year old cousin or help him sell it.

Everyone on this site has been a great help already on the car for me. Thanks to all.

Ok . . . time to get someone to take some pictures for you. You don't have someone there that can take and send you pictures?

Any members in the area?

Okay. I never got around to getting photos, decided not to buy the car, and now the car is up for sale by my cousin. Here is a link to the ad: http://butte.craigslist.org/cto/2176706180.html

If anyone wants the car, give him a call. He is asking $4500. Hopefully someone car pick it up and have a good time with it.

I am continually amazed by how far ahead of it's time Pontiac ALWAYS was. In 1974, 4-door sedan with bucket seats, center console, and manual transmission! It would be another 15+ years before the "sport sedan" became main-stream and popular! Remember the Maximas and Cressidas of the late 80s? Pontiac (again) answered with the 88 Bonneville SSE and then in the 90's finally mainstreamed with the 4-door Grand Prixs, Regal GS, and Impalas. But still no manual trans until ??? Pontiac did it again! The G8..... oh, I forgot, no more Pontiac. (Obama!)

NOT COOL!

The reason that these are "rare" is due to the fact that when they were new they were undesirable then as now; aka: no one wanted TO BUY them.
2 door coupes ALWAYS rule.
And your “4-door GTO” is really just a rebadged 72 LeMans isn’t it?

Funny!

I'm with gto4door, this GA is cool as a real deal 4-dr 4-spd. Yeah, they weren't popular back in the day, but they are unique and interesting to see at any car show today. So are 4-spd wagons of any make. Sure, I love 2-drs just as much as anybody, but show a little love for the poor ol' 4-door.

Alvin, While I agree you have a right to your opinion, I stronly disaprove of anyone bashing someone else's car, I for one at least enjoy seeing an odd combination performance car, and I do not think 4-door 4-speed cars are uncool, they were just made 20 years before the general public realised they wanted them, BMW M5 for just 1 example. Try selling a new midsized 2 door car Today, excluding the Pony Cars) there will not be many takers.
And While I do enjoy looking at 200 or so Simalure 64-72 GTO's at a show, I really like seeing an odd Sunbird Formula, a 75 Ventura Sprint, or maybe even a 73 GTO of dare I say it a 73-75 Grand Am at a show. I know most people wouldn't look twice at any of them, I consider it thier loss.

Will someone ever recover the money put into those cars? Probably not, but I do not consider butting $10,000 into a car worth $5,000 when finised much different than putting $35,000 into a car that you are lucky to get $20,000 out of (in todays more realistic Market) much Different.

My 2 cents worth, I supose with the inflation sense you post it is probably worth only 1 1/2 cents. So my 1.5 cents worth, as I sure you think you opinion is more valuable than Mine.

I don't normally preach, but that post just struck a nerve this morning I guess.
