Bathtub
Tom if we could seriously get the price down with multiple orders I too would be interested. How about starting a list to see how many would be interested? Also where would we get SD clone or SD type carbs?

We would have to talk Fabcraft in making the arms again and 61-63 to do the cloneing again. There are a few carb cores that make good clones.Tom

All the repop intakes did not have any additional material/height added to area above the port for taller ported heads, it was like the factory bathtub. The last batch Dave J. and I did we had the foundry add some clay to the core but the results were not what we wanted.

Mike, the carb the Bathtubs ended up using back in the day were the 421 SD NASCAR 3443 carbs, except for throttle arm and jetting the 3705 Max Wedge carbs are perfect.Again,if Brad had the arms avil there is a carb place in NJ that could put them on if John could not be talked into doing them. Also as you know the 750 E carbs race well just not so good on the street IMO.The carbs on my 63 engine are cloned 3705s,I also have a set of 3443s.Tom

Bathtub
Thanks Tom, John is working on my 3705 as we speak. Great guy and a fair price. Hope he got all the flood issues solved. What do you think about an interest list for the bathtubs?

Tom when I said flood issues I meant flooding from rain not the carb.

Tom I no longer have any 3705 sets that aren't already spoken for but do have four or five sets of other 750cfm AFB carbs and I could probably be talked into doing them up as bathtub carbs if Brad has the throttle arms. The only difference between the sets I have and 3705 carbs would possibly be the air bleeds, etc. in the boosters but I can fix that. I would not be interested in taking in carbs and working on them only ones I have on the shelf. I can't take on anything though until I get several jobs I have now out of here including Mike's.

The Smoke article was by John(61-63),it was for the std SD carbs not the Bathtub carbs.Tom

Bob,not dumb! There are guys in our hobby that had no clue of a bathtub intake untill Pete wrote his book and put pics in it.And so darn few made by the factory untill Dave and Joe trooped them. The amout of SD guys might not ever had a 421 SD NASCAR carb in their hands.I would tend you use uninformed then dumb.Tom

So how many of these were produced originally? Did they come installed on any cars or were they only available over the counter?

ONLY over the counter and dont know how many the factory made. The originals are not as good as the repop. They can be made to be as good with some work.I know not many were made.Tom

Tom, are you saying the repops perform better than the originals or that they fit better? Nunzi put a repop bathtub on a customers race car years ago and he said it took alot of work to make it fit properly. Another friend of mine currently owns the Boppin' Bear GTO. He was there when Bill Banks put the repop bathtub on that car. Same thing, the manifold needed alot of work .
