Q about buying cars at car shows
I'm going to a Good Guys show this Sunday, and they have a car coral. Do people expect to do the deal there, or how does it normally work?
I'm trying to figure out if I should bring a wad of cash or just a few bucks for a deposit.

If your comfortable carrying large cash then that is your best bargaining chip. Otherwise have a few cashiers checks made out for $5000 each and if no deal gets done you simply re-deposit them.
Of course if your looking to spend $10-15K or $80K that could make a difference! |

Its been my experience that most cars for sale at car shows are generally grossly overpriced... Especially at Pleasanton..

My brother got a pretty good deal on a 65 Cat at the Labor Day sale at Auburn IN a few years ago. But he made the deal in the parking lot, before the auction.

I agree with the over pricing at car shows. We have the "Moultrie Swap Meet Syndrome" down here. The seller leaves home with a $2,500.00 car and by the time he gets to the swap meet it is $4,000.00. Then, when he gets home it drops back down to $2,500.00.
If you find a car that you like try dealing on the last day or hour of the show. Get a contact number if you can't deal. Give it a week or so then call the seller and ask him if it is still available. Then you can start the deal all over.

At Daytona Turkey Rod Run I have seen large sums of money exchange hands. I agree that if you are seriously interested hold out till the last day if the car is still going to be there. There is a lot of "speculating" the first day or so then when no serious offers are made reality sets in on the last day. Sometimes a seller is willing to take less than what they normally would have to avoid the big let down of not making a sale at the show which they feel is a prime selling environment.
