New 6pt roll bar?
Hey All,
Preparing for a NHRA legal 6pt bar in the 68 firebird, and wanted to check in here before diving in... A buddy of mine has a tubing bender and installs roll cages in circle track cars- so will be helping me here. The plan is to use 1.75" / .118 mild steel, since that is what he normally stocks. I would like to install swivel door bars for ease of entry/exit. Any other considerations I should be thinking of other than what is pointed out in the NHRA rule book? Thank you!

I am not a fan of any "moveable" bars. That just creates a weak link. What times are you planning on turning (now and future)?

Drivers door swingout bar ... built well, with heavier than required hinge and pin points and nearly interference fit, and hinge/pin with greater sheer property ... ain't gonna go nowhere or be a weak link. Before spending money... Talk with an NHRA inspector. |

FYI: Your other thread has no access. Apparently this place is still messed up from when it crashed yesterday.

There is a sticky on this topic on YB. It has all the certifications needed for all types of cages.

I would go ahead and do a 10 or 12 point cage. You know you"ll wanna go faster in the near future.

I think it needs to be a minimum .120 wall DOM tubing or .130 ERW but I could be wrong. I also believe that having a swing out side bar will not help with the chassis flex on a 6 point roll bar. Good luck.

Moly is the only way I would go.(lighter than MS) I am considering a cage too. I can only go to rentals because I have no cage. I figure go for the 10 pt. If it is custom made they run the bars so tight to the roof and windshield pillars they are not in the way anyway. The worst bars are the side bars. Those make the "not street" to me, and of course it kills getting into the back seat.

.118 will be to thin at the bend to be legal

This is a clip from the 2018 rule book that mentions .118 MS. Am I missing something? Also, does anyone have the link to the roll bar sticky mentioned on yellow bullet? I was unable to find that sticky...
thank you!

I understand that, but would think NHRA has that factored into the .118 requirement?
