I still have a TN plate for my GTO from about 1978 ... brand new ... so you are saying in some states I could run that regardless of it being from the wrong state?

I think it depends on the laws of New York.

Frankly I'm surprised that any state will allow another states plate to be used.

I gave Alabama my one time $15 vintage plate fee about a decade ago and run a 1969 tag I bought off of eBay. Once I finally got through the DMV line and explained to the lady what I wanted to do, she immediately went into "we don't do this" mode. I knew "they" did, so I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor explained that they do and worked us through it. Then she explained that I could only drive it to shows and to get it fixed, which of course I stick to religiously.
I can't imagine dropping a California black plate on the counter at an Alabama DMV office and having a good result.
Enjoy.

MUSCLCAH where did you finally find the stickers? My plates (also from a 1964 GP) have NOV 1978 stickers.

Your Tennessee plate has to be the same year as your car. So if you have. 65 GTO...you need a 1965 Tenn plate.....the plate needs to be 1965 or have a Repop 1965 sticker on it......that Flys in NH......don’t know about your state

I have a 72 tag on my GP and ran this 64 tag on the C10. Neither is required to be registered with the state's DMV, just carry a current issued valid tag inside the car.
Cool deal, Mike!

MUSCLCAH did you run front and rear CA plates? If so did you need stickers on both?

California only uses stickers in the back.

Matching plates both front and rear and both plates need stickers.

Front and rear plates with stickers only on rear is the way it's run in California
