#68 Head on a 70 GTO
Was there a #68 head used on a 70 GTO 400, the block is a YS but the head a 68, I thought only 12 & 13 where the only heads available for the standard 400?

On a 1970 GTO "YS" 400, the correct cylinder head casting is #13. #12 castings were used on 1970 RA III's.
Can't recall ever even hearing of a #68 casting head.

I would re-check that code.
Possibly it's a 1 and a 3 being mistaken for the 6 and 8?

Possibly a '71 455 "66" casting.
Boy, a 400 would be a real barn burner with THAT compression!

Heres a picture, the seller says it a 68 also. He also claims its the original head. I don't have the date code yet. He said it was the low compression option/version. As far as I know, and you guys confirmed only 12's and 13's were on the standard 400.

The pic is not great, date code would prolly help, but maybe a "6S". That would be a '75 455, or '76 400 / 455 head. Either 101 or 115 cc chambers - ugh!
BTW, there was no "low compression" option available on a '70 GTO. There was an economy option on GTO's which ran for three years, '67-'69, and included a 2V carburetor as well as a butt-kicking 8.6:1 compression. I think Lloyd is probably right.
Look for the date code and see if there is a stamped secondary code on the boss.
