Default WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE 77 78 FORMULAS

I hardly see any 77 78 formulas for sale or threads on them. I would of thought they would have been collector items. If any has one of these years post a picture or a story about your car.....

Most were probably cloned to TA's. It is very hard to find a decent 77-81 Formula hood. Not really sure why since so many were built but they seem to be really hard to find. I would guess most were scrapped to clone a TA.

I've been wondering this myself. You will sometimes see a 78 but almost NEVER a 77.

My 77 from back in the early/mid 80's, with Mom's Grand Prix in the driveway.

Didn't check the #'s recently.....but don't recall them being that big......simply because almost EVERBODY wanted a T/A......and the price differential really didn't matter that much...as long as you got a big chicken on the hood....

I also doubt that many were factory ordered..........prolly MOST sold were low option dealer "lot cars".....

Would Love to find mine but yes, rust in the Northeast was an issue. Even not being winter driven mine ate up rear quarters...

Probably ends up like this one did.

Parted it out, kept the hood and one t-top.
Rest was junk.

There are and have been quite a few of these cars used in Class racing. Both the '77 350 and the 400's from both years have had competitive hp factor numbers, although some of the 400's have been refactored in recent years, because of strong performances, in national competition.

After having owned several TA's, including a '77 4-speed T-Top black Bandit-- for a DD, I would much prefer a hard top Formula--no leaking T-Tops and no shaker to deal with.

A quick online search turned up several Formulas for sale.

As some of you know, Bill Edgeworth passed away. His Formula was put up for sale.

I agree everyone wanted the chicken the hood with the shaker.. But what about the formulas with the W-50 option and the W72 4SPD formulas they have to be a collector item not sure how many of those formulas where made...

Not sure about 77 but 78 had 810 W72's and 79 had 367 W72's. not all of them came with the W50 though, I have had 1 79 without the W50 and now have one with.

MOST 77-79 Formulas were "lame duck" ones.....poorly optioned....with chevolet engines...I doubt that many were cloned to T/A's.......because T/A's were PLENTIIFUL on the used market....It would have been cheaper to buy a T/A used...that to turn a Formula into a decent T/A clone...

No mystery based on $ and as it was marketing pushing TA's and to purchase an exact equipped Formy was MORE $$$$....

That's why you'll see weird combos in Formys like no posi rear, plain steering wheel etc. etc.

And THAT IS MY on the subject!

Not many for sale just means the owners are keeping them!
I looked at several TA's and wannabes and still settled on a Formula. No regrets, only seen about 2-3 others of the type over here.

I missed out on a really clean black '78 Formula that was a W72 4-speed. Original drivetrain in it yet. No rust, even underneath. Paint was faded and rear 1/4 was dented. Seller was including a NOS GM 1/4 panel. Car sold for 2K I think. Missed it again last year when it went for about 3k from the next owner. Current owner had it for sale this spring for 10K and had done nothing to it. I doubt it sold at that price.
