Thanks guys for the compliments, keeping my Goldenrod yellow Formula was best decision I ever made. As for the Super Duty, my friend did not keep any VIN records; car was damaged in 1980 accident and engine was then stolen out of it late at night in repair shop parking lot. See pics for Penny dealership sticker on rear spoiler.

A great time to be a GM F-body enthusiast as 1st & 2nd gen Firebirds & Camaros were EVERYWHERE on the streets!

Sorry Alvin but have no control over that, using postimage.org photo upload website. Can you recommend another upload site? Or just zoom in on the forum photos without clicking on them to avoid the pop ups.

THANK YOU pmdtech for a job well done and incredible that you still remember. I guess there probably weren't all that many yellow W72 Hurst hatch Formulas passing through your area.

That has to be a good feeling to see a car you prepped decades ago still survives and looks great!

Pointless having a cold air intake duct with an open to engine bay heat element.

This low mile Formula was on e-bay this week & was due to end today I think. I spoke with the guy earlier in the week and he said his reserve was set at $15,000 and he wouldn't take anything less but somebody showed up yesterday in the snow and I guess he took an offer. I figured I would wait until it didn't hit reserve and then go see it - guess that wasn't the right plan.

Anyone here grab it?

It's a shame about those hood pins...
Otherwise, looks like a pretty nice car that could be brought back to stock pretty easily.

Hey Skip sorry for such a late reply.

Yes that is a RPM intake under the stock hood. If you could see a close up you would notice the previous owner milled the top of the intake because he did not want to put a hood scoop on the car. The car also has a nitrous system on it and he plumbed it into the plenum instead of using the plate. Probably not optimum for maximum horsepower but this engine makes more power than the current chassis/suspension can handle.

My goal is to get the car back into shape cosmetically and mechanically. It has a few things things that could be improved on.

If it had the original engine I would probably consider taking it back stock and putting the engine in my 69 Firebird. I have yet to send off for the PHS but it was originally a 400 car with the W50 package, power windows, power door locks, tilt, rear defroster, etc. and has only 69,000 original miles. I also had a 78 TA I used to race but got out of dragracing about 10 years ago. This car is more street than track the TA was strictly track.

I just looked at a 1978 formula yesterday that has been sitting for many years. I was surprised to see a chevy 350 under the hood! Very plain car. std interior, steel wheels with only tilt column as an option. No formula stripe on the rockers, just a starsky & hutch style stripe on the doors & roof with small formula decals on the fenders. For some reason I was thinking even the 350 cars had pontiac power plants. guess not?

No 350 Pontiac engines in 78, ended in 77. 305 was standard in Formula, the rest optioned up. The Chev 350 replaced the 350 Olds used in 77.
