Default quadrajet fuel inlet size

I am looking to convert from an edelbrock to a quadrajet and the fuel lines and fittings anit the same. Go figure, anyway is there anyone here that can tell me what is the size of the fitting where the fuel filter and the fuel line enters the carb? I was actually trying to convert it to AN fitting . Can this be done?

3/8 inch tubing, with an inverted flare is the size going into the inlet nut. I would imagine that there is a combination of fittings to go to AN. A hydraulic shop, such as a Parker Store would be my first stop to find such fittings.

I dont have a store like that near me, I've been looking for one but no luck so far. All Ive found so far is a 18 year old kid that doesn't know the diff between a transmission and a washing machine. Anyway, I kniw someone here has either done it or knew someone that has. Thanks Brad

It can be done. Cliff can answer your questions and help you out. Biggest challenge will be making the steel tube. I've made my own. Wish I was closer...

The fine threads in the Qjet fuel inlet changed from 7/8-20 to 1" in believe it was '72. There is an anodized alum fitting thats avail to accept an AN line fitting, Have had one come in before on a 73 4spd Qjet.

About 30 years ago when I was running a Quadrajet on my bracket race GTO I just took the stock 3/8 inverted flare inlet fitting and drilled and tapped it 3/8 NPT and installed a 3/8 NPT -6 male AN fitting.

Just drill and tap the inlet fitting, no need to buy anything special to adapt the AN fuel line. That way you can use either -6 or -8 by just changing the male AN fitting.

I prefer modifying stock fuel filter housings to 3/8" NPT threads vs buying anything aftermarket. Even better I have brass filter housings that are much easier to drill and tap than the factory steel ones. Using the stock short housings you can also run a high flow Marine fuel filter inside them and the aftermarket fittings are too short for that deal......

This would be better for 1972 and later Qjets as it uses the correct gasket.

I tried this Russell fitting and it doesn’t seem like you can use a factory fuel filter. Too short on the inside. Granted I am running a Chevy QJet. What I ended up doing what buying a 5/8-18 inverted flare adapter to -8 AN.

This threads into the OEM filter housing.

I mentioned this in comment #8 above. This is why I modify the stock filter housings by tapping them for 3/8NPT threads. 3/8NPT threads offer much better choices to go to AN fittings and flow much better than adapters to inverted flare......FWIW......

This is slightly off topic but years ago I was having fuel delivery issues with my Cliff modified Q-Jet. I removed the filter inside the carb inlet and problem solved. Since then I use a high flow external fuel filter and never had that problem since. My point is you don't need to use the internal filter in a Q-Jet in fact I thinks it flows better without it.

A quick update, I went with the Quadrajet Power and The fitting I got should do fine. It seems to be made to accept the filter just fine" Chevy Quadrajet". I will check back after I "Bring the Fire" to it.
