Default 1960 Catalina - Running Project

Decided to part with my Catalina.

This is the good looking body style on these, and they don't come up too often anymore as projects.

Just a few pics to start out here, I'm just putting this out here for interest right now before I stick it up on craigslist or the bay. Would rather it go to someone here if they are looking for one.

NOTE: The car is wet in the pics - it really doesn't look this good. The previous owner painted it flat black for that hotrod look (and that paint is shot). I'll get more realistic pics along with the extra parts towards the end of the week.

I bought this car a few years ago with the intention of driving it as a beater. It turned out to be more work than I ever had time for, so it never really hit the road. I've never even driven it out of the neighborhood.

About the car:

1960 Catalina 2 door hardtop
389 2BBL car (high compression one)
4 speed hydramatic
Manual Steering
Manual Brakes
Two tone car - Black with painted white roof
Grey Interior
Sold New in North Carolina in November of 1959 (have a copy of the original title)

The good:

Previous Owner put in a new windshield and seal
Previous Owner added 63-64 8 lugs
Newly recored (upgraded to 3 core) radiator
Newly recored heater core
New heater control valve
Rebuilt 1960 AFB four barrel
Modded and installed Edelbrock 04B intake
Frame is nice
Will run and stop

The bad:

Rust in all of the places you would expect
Mediocre floor pans installed by previous owner
Crappy trunk pan repair by previous owner
Wrong gas tank added by previous owner
Dual exhaust, but leaks engine on RH side (I've never looked to find the leak)
Transmission has a whine in neutral - might be front pump, not sure - goes away in gear

Comes with:

2 New Mexico Doors
1 New Mexico Fender (forget which side right now)
Correct gas tank
Complete Power steering setup from a 1960
Extra front control arms and the rear one (to make rebuilding the front end easier)
Factory Service Manuals and owners manual

Just want to reiterate that while it will start, run, and drive, this is a project. Expect to need to rebuild everything, etc. Needs all of the weather stripping (except the front windshield), rust repair, interior work, etc. Don't want anyone thinking they are hopping in and driving this thing across the country.

Looking to get $5200, which is WAY less than I have into the thing, but such is life. Clear Virginia title in my name.

Please post interior pictures. When you rust in the expected areas can you be more specific and post pics of rust if possible. I live in the rust belt so your idea of rusty and mine probably differ. Anyway I am interested.

Bill.

I’m not an expert, but it sure looks like a bubbletop ! I think it’s pretty damn cool. If I had the resources, I’d definitely buy it...

Unhappy 60 Cat

It's evidently no longer for sale.......I've requested interior pictures on this thread as well as a PM from the seller with no response for a couple of weeks.

Sorry Guys,

I ended up going out of town for work, plus Thanksgiving - so I hadn't had a chance to get back here and update this.

There is a pending sale on the Catalina.

Thanks Shaggy,

As I said in the PM, please let us know if he is not interested at some point, and/or, does not pick up the car.

We are definitely interested!

Thanks Dave
