Default Vintage 64 pics

Since the 65 thread has proven to be so popular I thought we should also have a 64 thread.

Here is our GTO from 1970 when my cousin Bob first brought it home. Check out the cool axle hubs which were painted body color. He tells me that was all the rage around here at the time. He did lots of street racing but never really seriously modified the car.

Great idea...Who really wants to look at '65s when they could be looking at '64s (I'm kidding of course - although I clearly prefer the '64). Here is a picture I have in my "research" folder - I have no idea where I got it or who the person in the photo is. Looks like Saddle Bronze - check out the wheels and tires.

Default Two Vintage Photos

The first is my '64 at our local drag strip. Ran best of 13.29 at 109.75 with stock 389 and '62 Tripower bolted on. 3.90 gears, Doug's three tube headers.

The second photo is of my '64 in 1965 parked in front of my house. I added the pinstripe.

Default Vintage 64 Pics

I traded in my '62 Catalina with Ventura Trim, Tri Power and 4 speed for a '64 GTO post car, also with tri power, and 4 speed after the Catalina was caught in a hail storm. I immediately added a set of Crager chrome wheels and ordered the mail order version of the Royal BobCat package. Unfortunately I traded it for a '69 Catalina. A number of years later purchased a very rust free FL '64 GTO convertible that I restored and have owned for over 30 years.

Some more photos of Bob's GTO from back in the day and some photos of his brothers' cars too. And a scan of the GTO brochure which has the best brochure cover photo EVER.

In the first photo the 64 only shows in the last photo when it was candy apple red and in the staging lanes at the local drag strip.

Using a Corvair as a tow vehicle? That must have been slow going.

It did great.

That's how we rolled back then.

The tires got my attention in this pic. They look like a combination of red stripe and whitewall???

PS- I can't believe that ad that Jeff Hamlin posted...European market maybe? I do like it though!

I'd say these were seldom seen due to the Price.
Not many willing to spend $75+ on a tire in '64/'65.
That is over $500 in today's market.
