Wanted to know what size tire and rim combo's others are using on the back of the stock suspension? Mainly looking for the widest and best fitting combo's! I have gotten 15x7 with 4.5"bs rims with 275/60/15's on mine. I use the same rim with 265/60/15's for racing, as they don't rub like the 275's, safety first!!!! I would like to stay in the 27-28" tall range!

I have 15x8 Dragstar but forget the back spacing. I have ran 27x10.5 hoosier quick times, I have ran 29x9 slicks, they would rub the shock unless you "masage" the dust guard and that was when they were in the stock location. right now I just put on a new set of 28x10's. I was a little nervous but I recntly put cal-trac,2 piece springs etc. on the back and relocated my shocks inward. They are tight but fit and don't look silly. I also have trimmed the lip as far back as possible. you can't tell unless you actually look for it. Once you move your shocks, you free up a lot more backspacing. I'd like to order anothe set of rims with a little more backspace and less to the front so I can lower the car even more but that takes more money and right now I'm scrounging for money for Norwalk.

Rob,

Is there anyway you can measure the backspace on your wheels? I am looking to get a set of rims and need to know the back space. My shocks are already moved inside the springs and I have a new set of SSM Lift bars ready to go in.

I came up w/ needing a 5" backspace, maybe even 5.5" I have a set of 28x10 goodyear slicks but they are measuring 10.5" thread. I'm hoping I can get s et pretty cheap just to use w/ slicks and I'm going ot keep the Rally II's for street tires.

I'll measure tonight plus give you the pt# on the rim itself. If I had a set made that moved everything back another .5 that would be perfect.

I found a cheap set of Cragars on Jeg's site, Summit din't have it listed. They are 15x8 w/ a 5.25" BS for $52 apiece, not drag wheels but...

Probably before I am done I will have a set of draglites! Seems thats the way this whole project is going.

The biggest radial tire I have seen stuffed in the back of an x-body with shocks in the stock location was a 295/50/15 on a 15x8 wheel with 5.5 backspacing. To get this tire to fit of course the wheel lip had to be rolled and trimmed and a few places in the wheel well had to be massaged with a big hammer. The tire is about 1/2-1 inch shorter than what your looking for but I'd consider it because it will be wider and the tire is not so short it looks funny. FWIW the car's 60ft. is usually 1.6 or so with the best being 1.52 on true radials. Winston Winners to be exact. The difference for this car between radials and slicks was only .5 tenth in the 60ft. I think the best on a slick was a 1.47 60.

Fresh off the creeper, the backspacing is 4.5" and front is 3.5". I checked the summit catalog just to make sure I was correct and weld makes a 4.5" offset rim. 5" would be ideal with the shocks moved.

That's what I was thinking, 5" or 5.5" on a 15x8. Rob, thanx for getting that info! Now I can sleep better!

Right now I am running a 275/60/15 with a 7" rim I want to move my rear shocks so I can get this tire on a 8" rim. I need some advice on how to do this, Is there a shock relocation kit out there? I am running a stock suspension this stock shackles.

Issue becomes the top mount.

The top mount angles the shocks, a new bottom spring plate accomodate the new shock location, not so certain the top factory mount will.

If NOT then you need to fabricate a universal top mount that spans between the frame rails. I have my rear out and post a pic of this mount later today.

Competition Engineering makes a shock mount relocator (inboard) for 67-69 Camaro/Firebird which, according to the C.E. website will fit Nova, Ventura etc.. when shortened 1"

Keith,

I run a 15" x 8" w/4.5" backspacing, but I had my 9" built/narrowed 1" on each side. I have run 275/60-15 MT Drag radial, 28/11.5-15 MT ET Street and 28/9-15 ET Drag slick w/this combo. Stock rear width would need a 5.5" backspace

Hey, are you still interested in the stock rear multi-leafs (like new) and/or front springs? I swapped out the multi-leafs for split mono's. I also have a stock set of front springs like new and a set of Moroso front springs that have 1 coil removed that are coming off the car as we speak. The car is currently in the chassis shop for the rack/pinion install, tubular control arms and QA1 Pro-coil conversion.

Let me know

Hey Rob!

Sort of...

Getting the rack done to allow bigger tube headers for the RA IV top end, which should be on for Norwalk. I have had this for a couple of years now and need to get it on the car or get rid of it. These were originally Bruce M's heads/Victor 4500 intake done by Brandywine, true 300+ CFM round ports. Should run deep into the 10's based on what my D ports run!

I am getting ready to put the IA II block together for next season w/Tigers (N/A) first to season the block, then I will reconfigure for the F2 blower. Do not really intend on running the F2 in the Ventura, but may if I do not find a tube chassis that suits me.

See ya @ Norwalk!

Hey John I would really like to see that pic of your shock mount that spans the frame rails. Does anyone know of anyone that has used the old sway bar mounts for shock mounts?
Thanks
