Thumbs up shut off

Look at the thread that reads "check out my plate". He has a
nice picture of the back of his car with a switch. That is about
the best spot you can put one on these cars. I would really like
to see the rest of his car it looks pretty nice.

This was the best place I could come up with when I installed mine. I've seen them installed to a plate that was made to hang down below the bumper, but that just seems like a bad idea to me as it could drug or hit.

That is what I was thinking, mounting it on the tail panel.

I also thought about through the back up light or mounting it below the bumper.

John,

My battery box is mounted on the passenger side of the trunk directly over the frame rail

Power cable runs along inside of tail panel attached to the tail light housing screws w/adel clamps to the switch

Switch is located on the passenger side of the tail panel (angled area on 73-74) next to the license plate

I used the switch recommended by Jim Hand that is available from Speedway, which has the alternator circuit terminals too

Power then goes to the bulkhead connector in the floor pan and follows the passenger side frame rail to the front and across the rear of the K-member to the starter

Herb-

Appreciate the info, that is anice switch with the alt terminals built in.

Question: NHRA says the hold down box must (somehow) surround the frame. Is it possible to get a photo of how you mounted the box from underneath?

Thanks-
John

I found this to be the easiest most cost effective place to mount the cut off switch. Since the battery is right there on the passengerside of the trunk. JD

I placed mine to the left of the license plate in the recessed area that leads into the tag.

I've been messing around with the push-pull set-up idea. Put the switch in the trunk, use the rod when at the track, remove the rod and just use the switch else where. Extra security, smaller hole. And the small terminals on that switch shown should be used power the ignition on vehicles that use a single wire alternator.

Where were you thinking of boring the hole?

Looking at going in behind the bumper around the license plate. Think I can mount the switch to the trunk latch base. Would be simpler if you could use a cable instead of a rod.

Friend of mine did this and it turned out real nice on his Chevelle. I was going to but didn't have access to the tooling he does and frankly not as anal as he is about his car, although it is a sweet ride he has had since he was 17. I was going to put mine through the reverse tailight lense since I have extra lens housings. That is where he put his and it looks nice.

John,

Here are a few more pics, I still need to get one from under the car showing the battery hold down

The battery sits directly over the frame rail with a hold down bolt to the inside/outside of the frame rail thru the floor pan with larger area washer/self locking nut

I used a 1" hole saw for the disconnect switch, they are available @ most hardware stores and are inexpensive

I know, that thing is huge (16 gallons of 110 $$)!

I put it in when the car was driven more on the street, but have been using it more recently for ballast while tuning for Ram Racing index class

I'll be changing the fuel system for the new motor, downsizing the cell and installing ballast boxes to adjust/tune weight, then I can get at least a couple of 30 packs in there, LOL!

Those 30 packs might just get the shook out of them if kept in the trunk!

Rob,

I am just hoping to have it all back together for the first race in April...It would be nice to be done sooner and get those shakedown runs completed!
