question about jumping timing mark and spark crossfire, arcing
I have been going crazy with what I would consider an unusual problem and so I thought I would run it past you guys and see what happens, I am not working on a Pontiac so I stayed out of the electric specific thread. I just know there are very knowledgable people here and hope someone might be able to help. what would cause a motor with new distributor, new cap, new rotor, new plugs and new wires to have a timing mark jump around intermittently under a timing light, and run a little rough. So the usual answers would be , wires or under cap arcing,, Cross firing, Bad wires, Problem in distributor bearings or drive gear etc. All of these have been replaced . Most even replaced and upgraded more than once trying to figure out what the problem is. So here is the biggest strange clue of all. If I put the 40 year old hard as a rock wires on everything is fine. if I put New Denso wires its a problem, If i put a better set of wires still a problem, I put MSD wires . same problem. But every time I put the old crappy wires on everything is smooth. Any Ideas? Why would new quality wires dance but old wires work fine? New petronix dist. New timing chain, new flame thrower coil wired to 12v. Good ground to motor from battery and ground to firewall and chassis. Thanks In advance for any suggestions.
