Default Mini Starter Terminals

I finally broke down and bought one of those mini starters hoping to cure my hot start issues. But, there's only two terminals. One for the battery and the other for both the yelloow and purple wire?

Is that how it works, thanks, hoping to get in between rain storms today.

I wouldn't hook the yellow wire up.
It's for the distributor to get 12 volts on cranking.
(guess it couldn't hurt either)

Me as well, but you have to get past that "Chrysler" sound when they crank. A very small inconvienience for the benefits.

if your running points, splice the yellow wire into the main post opposite the other 2 terminals. If you're not using points, then do as said above and leave the yellow wire disconnected.

I am aware of 2 different style mini starters for the Pontiac. One is based on a Nissan design and the other is based on multiple apps. Even Rolls Royce uses this design with a different housing as a stock starter as well as Chrysler. So when someone says it sounds like a Chrysler you can tell them it sounds like a Rolls. Hope you feel a little better about the sound now.

I went with a mini starter as well but mine has only two terminal, the positve cable and the terminal for the purple wire. I also have points right now-but going to change later on. I dont have the positive post opposite the other two terminal like RicksGTO does. Do I splice the yellow wire with the main postive post or the purple. Just installed headers and want to get the starter in to get it to the exhaust shop.
I bench tested the stock starter and the R terminal has 11 volts when cranking, would that be enough for the yellow wire if I spliced it in with the purple? Thanks for any help.

If you're not using the 'ford' relay set-up also, the yellow wire could be connected to the purple wire.
I'd just tape it off somewhere myself.
(don't use it)

The GM Starter is a door-stop - heavy, draws too many amps, and has hot-start issues.

Running a CVR (think that is the name) on my '69 Bird, and got a nice black-crinkle finished PowerMaster mini-starter on the '72 GTO. The Bird starter works great (based on the Denso style).

I will never run one of those piece of s**t GM starters again!!

I put a Robb MC starter on mine, and there is another requirement if your starter is a 'perminant magnet' starter. You have to run a relay to ensure that the power on the purple wire is disconnected when the key is released.

My starter doesn't have the traditional mopar whine, but turns over very well.

After further thinking, I'd just not use the yellow wire.

I think there could be feedback from the ign. coil back to the starter if hooked to the purple wire.
