I was working behind the dash before this happened. Something fell into the gauge by the needle and I'm not sure if I need to remove it or not. And I'm surprised at how flimsy the circuit board is, does it just bend out of the way and I remove the gauge? I'm also assuming that it has to be removed to get whatever it is out of there? Thanks

You need to remove the gauge pod, the speedo and gauges are one, the circuit board is attached to them on the back side, as stated, you will have to remove the dash to get them out.

What a pain. So after the pod is removed from the dash, does the gauge come out of the front of the pod? I tried driving around last night to get the gauge to move and hopefully give that...whatever that is a chance to fall out of the way and it did move quite a bit, but not enough.

I dont think you;ll have to remove the gauge asm,the lens cover when the gauge pod is out will come off.it looks like you'll just have to pull the ? out with some needle nose plier's.update your dash Bulbs while your in there LOL its not a huge deal to do(pulling the dash) winter is fast approaching..so iv'e heard LOL

Just be careful of the flimsy "circuit board" !
If you rip it they are gettin' hard to find. Esp the one year only 72 board!
72 had the seat belt warning light. 71 and back did not IIRC.

When I converted my '70 GTO from idiot lights to gauges, I was able to extract the idiot light/speedo pod, transfer my original speedo to the gauge pod and install the gauge/speedo pod without pulling the dash. There is not a whole lot of room up there but, with socket extensions and a whole lot of patience, you should be able to remove the entire pod assembly with the dash in place and hopefully figure out what's in the gauge.

Dash removal is best, and not very hard at all. You can do it.
