I've always made that distinction also...motor=electric and engine=internal combustion. Comes from my R/C model airplane days. I learned to 'let it go' though..lol

"ALL ORIGINAL"... hugely over-used term... rarely ever possible to be true. Often easily easily disproved by simply looking at the audio system in the car!

"Bobcat" ... there are more GTO Bobcats around now than ever could possibly have been set up by Royal Pontiac or Milt S. back in the day.

"Original Headrests" (on a 1967 or 1968 GTO)... if I see one more 1968 GTO with 1969-later head restraints on it I'll scream. Out of 6 cars seen at Scottsdale auctions ALL had 1969-later head restraints, not the correct factory original optional restraints made in 1967 and 1968. But every seller swore they were factory original!!! And one seller had the audacity to claim that his 1968 "GTO"(with the grille painted black and 1959-later head restraints and wrong glamor rings) was "all-original" and "one owner"...

"Correct".... usually when this word is used, you can expect just the opposite

"GTO tribute".... Usually means it started life as a 6-cylinder LeMans and nobody wants to call it a fake GTO, so they came up with this cute name.

"Has lots of standard options!" Option means a feature to pay extra, not just any 'feature'.

Calling any Pontiac A body a "GTO" or a "muscle car".

Example: posting a blog listing on a 1969 Custom S, and calling it "... some kind of weird GTO."

Curious..what's the giveaway? I had a '68 back in the '80s that had headrests. I never paid that much attention to them because back then I did not know how rare it was on '68 and earlier cars. My RECOLLECTION of them was that they were visibly different than the '67 which makes me think they were pretty close to the '69.
Only photo I have that shows them at all is this one from when I first bought it..bent bumper and all.

Default Engine vs. Motor

I was once corrected by an old technician about using the word "motor" when speaking about an engine.
He told me the difference is that a motor is an electrical device that generates electrical energy and converts it into mechanical energy....(he went back to smoking his pipe and never defined "engine"......)

A new term that I've heard recently to describe a Base model car is "Option Delete".

This is a rare option delete Trans Am.

Agreed. If Royal had sold all of the cars that have Royal license plate frames they would still be dealer prepping them.

Back to topic: Put me down as one who is a bit sensitive about the liberal use of the word "survivor".

The term "frame off restoration" annoys the crap out of me. Do you take the frame off the body? No. It's a body-off restoration. You remove the body from the frame. Like most overused terms, they wind up becoming a mash-up of terms. "Body-off" gets mashed up with "Frame-up" and becomes "Frame-off". I also love it when someone says their unibody car received a full "Frame-off restoration" when it doesn't even have a frame.

I like the ones that say "frame off" and it's a uni-body car.

"Worth $xxxxx once restored" while asking 50% of that number and it needing 95% or more to get there.

Overused term? "UPGRADED". Every "upgrade" I've ever seen has been a definite hit to the vehicle's integrity.

*original owner/ one owner*. I've seen this abused too often when it should read that they bought it from the original owner. Or the person before bought it from the original owner.

It ceases to be a one owner car when it is no longer owned by the person who bought it new.

Default Terms or words overused

Describing a '65 GTO as "Hurst Edition" or describing the Muncie transmission as "Hurst 4 speed"

1 No rust, I'd bet if you bought any new car right off the showroom floor and started to disassemble it you'd find rust in several locations, rust is stock.

2 Ratrods/patina, had I known that rust and dents were going to become so valuable these days I'd never had a single one of my cars junked over the last 60 years. By the way patina is a word that describes an old finish on wood??

3 My favorite! Engine completely rebuilt but never started, so you want a lot of money for a motor/engine that is completely unproven. And who did the work, was it BluePrint engines, or did your cousin Moe do it for you??
