The Movie Lone Survivor
If you do nothing else concerning this movie; please watch this portion of an interview (14:20 thru 16:20) of movie director, an actor, and Marcus Luttrell.

The movie is a must see, IMHO. Very humbling to say the least. It's not your typical shoot-em-up bang bang, everyone falls down and your machine gun never runs out of ammo film. I saw it the first night it was released, and at the end, there was nothing but complete silence in the theater, no one said a word, or made a sound as the film captured photo's of those who were killed during the mission, and pics of their loved ones. It hits pretty hard, especially for those of us who have served......Cliff

Ditto! same experience here opening night.
For those that haven't I'd, also suggest reading Marcus's book.

I haven't seen this movie yet. I generally stay away from war movies as I find that Hollywood really never captures what war or military life is truly like.
I found the movie "A Few Good Men" to be truly horrible and an insult to the Marine Corps but I did and still do always enjoy the one line that Jack Nicholson said it went something like " I have neither the time nor the inclination to stand here and argue with a man who rises and sleeps under the very blanket of the protection that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it". For those who have served and especially those who have served in combat we all know that the civilian population will never understand the things we've seen and experienced. Perhaps I'll see this movie if it comes this highly recommended.

Very powerful movie, also very hard to watch at times.
At the end, when they show the pictures I was really choked up over the naming of his son. |

It truly makes one appreciate the sacrifice our warriors make; not that some of us don't already, but the least we can do is to take every opportunity to remember once again.

How does an interviewer get through that without sobbing like a baby? I am waiting to leave my office until I don't look so bad. Last edited by i82much; 01-15-2014 at 11:08 PM. |

Great Movie.
I have seen several interviews with Marcus Luttrell. He appeared on the Glenn Beck program years ago when Glenn was on Fox. Glenn is a very good friend of Marcus and just donated $50K to Marcus's Foundation. The General Public needs to watch this movie, to see what war is really like and how those that volunteer sacrifice for our safety. I don't believe the public really understands the reality of our brave men and women in our Armed Forces and the sacrifices they make. |

Very good movie, and I have the utmost respect for Marcus and the special op guys. I love the SEALS and have friends that were SEALS. I think this movie tells their story well, but not as well as Marcus did in the book. Having served in Nam in 66, my own opinion is that the average grunt isn't portrayed at all. But this movie wasn't about the average grunt either. If you want someone to learn about what war is about for the average grunt, watch We Were Soldiers and Full Metal Jacket. These show the story of war with a new guy and a minimum amount of training.

I need to see this movie.
I am reminded of a line from the end of the Korean War movie "The Bridges of Toko-Ri", where the commander of the CV "Savo Island" (in real life CV-34 - Oriskany) asks, "Where do we find such men?" Where indeed. Thanks to all who serve and have served! |
