Default Rockers won't clear the valve covers?

Hey all. I have a set of #62 heads, I put 1.5 Scorpion roller rockers on them, and My new valve covers won't clear them at the areas where the bolt holes are.
Is this common? Can I grind the valve covers or do I grind down the rocker arms?

Or is there a chance of useing a spacer to make them fit? I know that can help with clearence on height, and on the end rockers, but these are in the middle where the bolt holes are.

And the car has power breaks so hieght is an issue.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Thumbs up Grind 'em..............

Very common w/ cast v-covers; grind a radius on the 4 rocker arms per head that are near the bolt pockets. Be very sure that the powdered metal from the grinding does NOT get into the needle bearings on the rockers.

I had the same problem with a set of the gold crane's. I ended up having to use a set of tall stamped steel covers.

Thanks wheelspin, I wasn't sure if grinding down the rocker arms was ok or not. Maybe if I put a piece of tape of the needle bearings, and the oil holes and such I can avoid a problem.

There are several places that sell spacers for our heads in various thickness. I prefer this method over grinding if you can't use tall covers.

Just my .02

Question Why grind the rockers??

Grinding the corners on selected rockers is required due to the thickness of the cast covers around the bolt pockets, NOT the heigth of the v-covers.

yes, heighth isn't the issue, it is the inside curve where the cast aluminum valve covers have the bolt holes.

Had exactly the same problem w/my Harland Sharps . On my covers I had to put a small radius on the rockers for cylinders #1,7,2 and 8 intake only. Those areas were so close that I couldn't quite get proper bolt "line up". After I completed the work I "dry fitted ""everything together and cranked the engine to be sure it wasn't hitting anywhere during the rockers' cycle. I also used Butlers" 5/16" valve cover gaskets . They are the thickest I could fine . I've had issues w/sealing and these cork gaskets w/RTV was a quick fix. Larry
