Pics please; 70 GTO Dash removal and Install Pics
Does anyone have detailed pics of the disassembly and install of a 70 GTO dash to include gauges, etc.? I did not remove this dash; the car came in boxes.. Particularly interested in the various clips, nuts, screws, etc., to ensure I use the same hardware, and routing of hoses, and wires. I had pics of other dashes I removed / installed, but were lost in a hard drive crash. I have the factory assembly manuals, but as we all know pics help immensely. Thanks in Advance. Jim

I know removal/install of dash is much easier when leaving the dash harness intact, and doing it as an assembly.
The steering column needs to be 'dropped' out of the way in order to do install/removal. Much of the OE hardware might be difficult to source, and the assembly manual is only a general 'guide'. The plastic shield that goes over the gauge pod also may be difficult to source. I can check to see what I have for OE hardware etc, can post here if you have any you are having troubles finding, I just recently did an R&R, and went to a lot of aftermarket stuff. If you haven't already, you can also post in the 70-72 section, those guys are a premium source of info. .

Photos of 1970 GTO Gauges in the bezel
Here are the only photos I have. I would think that the best way to see how all that is put together is to find a 4-door parts car (a 1970 6 cyl tempest will work) and take it apart yourself.
There is a lot to the dash on one of those cars, and quite a few specific screws and fasteners. NOTE that there is a ground strap in-between the main housing and the (clock &/or tach). If you have a clock or an in-dash tach as an option.

Thank you very much UW and Pete for your advice. I will post in the thread you recommended UW. Pete, are you still restoring the speedos?

If you like the way I did the console removal thread above, I might be able to do the same with a dash removal using an outline posted by PB in this thread... http://www.forums.maxperformanceinc....d.php?t=521401

Great thread on the console Ransom! My hat is off to you for taking the time for the console thread; a very precise step by step checklist to ensure factory correct reassembly, and that effort I'm sure took a lot of time.
Anything we all do for the good of this forum is much appreciated. I lost all my archive pics on my main hard drive and the back up external hard drive was not saving all my pics as I had thought. I had about 150 pics on the re-assembly of a previous dash I had restored. I surly would appreciate any assistance to ensure a factory correct assembly of the back of the dash. Thanks much and have a safe Memorial Day. Semper Fi!. Jim |

Maybe it could be saved as a ‘sticky’ by the administrator so it’s here for a long as the forum lasts.
