Default Rear seat belt installation 68 GTO

Need a little help making sure I have these rear seat belts in correct position before I install the back seat. Do I have the males and females in the correct bolt position? Also, how tight do tighten the bolts anchoring the belts? Seems like they should be loose enough to allow the belts to pivot some, but not sure.

Couldn’t find anything by searches. Appreciate any help.

I installed them in my ‘65. (Needed to drill holes for them.). I can’t comment on placement, but you definitely don’t want them loose enough to pivot. Choose the angle you want, then tighten down.

Your placement looks like what I have found in two 68 A-Body convertibles, one LeMans and one GTO except the loops were down. I seem to recall the bolts being full tight not allowing the belt attachment tab to move.

My 68 convertible was the same as the example photos that were posted. Loops down, bolts full tight.

By loops down, do you mean the folded over & sewn flaps go down, & if so, do the bracket where the bolt passes through also go down? Just looking for a little clarification.

Also, based on the bolts I have, it looks like all of the rears get tightened down & do not rotate. Is it just the inside front (next to the counsel) buckle side that gets a shoulder style bolt so it can pivot with seat position?

Thanks, 68RT

Correct belt placement can be found in the Fisher Body Manual. There is also a sequence for stacking multiple belts under the same mounting bolt. The metal tips are bent at different angles to insure a flat surface when installing. Especially important for front bench models with shoulder belts that have three belts on each tunnel mount.

Default FWIW...

The 1st image closely exemplifies how the belts are laid-out in the FISHER BODY MANUAL.
They show the belts bolted in this manor so they will come up over the seat cushion in a flat manner.

However like anything GM it doesn't mean its law

Also state torque as 24 to 45 ft. lbs.

I have the fisher book & looked at it a couple days ago, the belt info seemed very random & not model specific. I might have been on the wrong pages though.

I am unsure if the brackets should go upwards or down. Seems like they should go upwards so they come out a little more centered between the seat back & bottom. But then that flips them over. I guess I want the buckles sitting button side up on the seats when not in use, so that pretty much would make them the way KK68 has them in his picture in the first post?

The 1st image POSTED is how they are shown in the Fisher Manual,
the only thing not fully correct to how the anchor plates are not stacked.

By installing them this way the belt(s) come up over the seat and lay flat (Fisher Couch facing UP) .
No twist/folds in the belts, This is the same across the board regardless of make/model.

This drove me nuts as well when correcting the 3 rear seat belts in the '67.

JM2C

Cheers.
