Radiator insulation?
So I think Im going to break down and buy a Cold Case this weekened to replace my Ebay special. Its not at all bad for the price, but just noooot quite enough for my motor.
Anyway, when I take out the radiator I wanted to install the new one right. Buy a correct hardware kit etc. Well where Im stumped is I feel like there should be some sort of filler material to close the gaps between the radiator and the firewall. I cant find anything like that. Maybe Im using the wrong terminology to search? Do first gens not have any? I know I can just use hardware store insulation but I wanted to see if there was a purpose build parts kit first.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or not. They really don't give a description of it's use.

Yeah that's not really what I meant. Im suspecting at this point that there isn't one. The AC cars got what you just linked and a piece that sealed the core support to the hood. What Im looking to do it close the gaps between the radiator and core support itself so the air has to go through. I guess Ill just go buy some weather seal at Lowes.
I also don't have the upper and lower metal baffles that close the holes between the bumper and core support. I closed the top with some cardboard as an experiment and it did help when moving. Probbaly 5-8*. Im wondering if the bottom piece would be worth just as much. The top ones are $99 the bottom one is like $150.

I put the top ones on my 67 but made my own lower pan. I had bought the lower fiberglass one from year one but it didn't fit and and looked someone else had already tried to make it fit by cutting the ends off. What a pain that was to return. That's when I made my own out of .032 aluminium. Luckily I work for the airlines so I had access to the metal and tooling required.

I’m actually an A&P too. Currently non practicing.
I was thinking about making one myself. If you get a chance I would appreciate a picture of your lower pan so I can see how you mounted it.

This is the best I can do for now. I cut the metal to fit the recessed area of the front valance panel and fenders. Once I was happy with the fit I drilled holes evenly spaced across the front and sides and then riveted nut plates to the flange. I counter sunk the holes and put in flush head screws. I also made a 2 to 3in bend along the width of the pan to stiffen it up. I wish I had a picture of it before I installed it.

Thanks. Other than the 90* bend without a break it wouldn’t look to hard.

It was very easy. I used a piece of cardboard for my template then trimmed to fit. I think it took me all of 30 minutes to make it.
