Adding a Oil Accumulator
My plan is to add an oil accumulator to my drag car to remove the loss of oil pressure during slow down and braking after crossing the finish line.
I see Canton make two versions, a 3 qt. and a 2 qt., how do you determine which size is best for your application? Those who has one or has used on in the past could you please provide input. Bob,

i have a 2 quart canton and a 6.5 quart pan. i have not had a chance to review my bearings as i have not had to take engine out for any reason. Will be popping it open soon, and can give updates then. Its good insurance, if you have a great pan you may not need it, but for the money and the weight, i beleive it to be a great additon.

The bigger the better, if you have room.
I've got the three-quart model. Jim

Jim,
Do you use your 3 qt. with a remote oil filter system? And if so did you just "T" in into the return line going back into the engine?

I use the 3qt. I feel more is better and the weight difference is small. Mine is mounted on the firewall where the heater box was and is plumbed directly into the block utilizing the 3/8th threaded hole on the block next to the distributor hole. I used a -10 line. Worked on my stock and IAII blocks.

Thank you, just making sure I do this right, you start adding up all the hose, fittings, wiring, valves as well as the accumulator and it's something the old wallet can only pay for once. :-)
Bob,

Next question, lol, do you guy's use a standard size filter or a deeper filter when using a relocation mount?
I use a PF-24 AC Delco filter currently, should I look at running a different size? Do they make a deeper filter that is the same diameter as a PF-24?

my system currently uses an easily obtainable ford motorcraft FL1A. Having cut many apart, i am please in the construction of this filter and it has proven up to the task for a few years now. I also like the K&N and Wix.
I am also an advocate of mobil one 10-40 or 15-50. When you are going rounds its one less thing to think about. I am sure there are oils that are worth some power, but there may be a trade off. I am a lowly bracket racer, ill give up some power for protection when we are round robin

Because of space considerations, I use a relatively small WIX racing filter (don't have access to the number at the moment). I usually remove the filter and cut it open to check for debris after every time out to a track, so filter size isn't very important to me. I use the filter more to catch problems early.
