Canton Road Race Pan
Over the winter I have a built 4l60e that I'll be installing in my 69 bird. Given the complexity of this project and issues that can crop up do to the nature of this particular transmission being mated to a pontiac engine, I'm giving serious thought to pulling the engine to mate the new transmission, then installing back into the car.
This give me an opportunity to not only clean up some cruddy paint on the engine and in the bay, but I've also wanted to upgrade the pan on this so I'm not stressed about getting the car out on the auto-x course. Has anybody installed the 7 qt road race pan in their first gen? What was your fitment like? Any modifications necessary to get it to fit? I haven't purchased the pan yet and this is not a race car, so if it's going to be a complete pain in the ass, I'll probably look in a different direction. Any information here would be helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I’ve still got a stock type starter. Didn’t even think about that. If I go this route I’ll have to budget for a starter as well.

You can run an extra qt of oil and you should be fine on an auto X course with a stock pan. I've done it many times and have never seen oil pressure disappear. If you want to be extra sure you could install some trap doors and some baffle to control the slosh. I probably have pics somewhere.
