Who makes Howard's HFT lifters?
Anyone know who makes the Howard's HFT lifters for our pontiacs? Looks like they are made in the USA.

According to the lifter info discussed here, it seems that you may not know what lifters you'll get, until you open the box. It seems that cam companies change lifter sources, without informing the buyer.
I bought Jegs lifters, because their ad said USA made. They were Delphi lifters. But, if you order now, I don't know what you'll get. And a guy at Summit couldn't, or wouldn't, tell me who made the Summit brand Pontiac lifters. I think it has been posted here that there are 3 Pontiac HFT lifter makes. Delphi, Hylift Johnson, & Eaton. Eaton lifters are usually cheaper & are not made in the USA. If this info has changed, I'm not aware of it. https://www.eaton.com/Eaton/OurCompa...eases/98065735 http://toplineauto.com/wp-content/up...on-Catalog.pdf Rhoads lifters are Hylift Johnson cores, modified by Rhoads. The Dephi lifters have a groove near the bottom. This is said to be because they have a hardened foot. So, they're easy to ID, regardless of what box they come in. I think the cheap non-USA made lifters have no grooves. But, this 1st ad says these cheap lifters are USA made. Could be a lie, or the wrong pic. Lots of online ads have pics that are not exactly what you'll get.

Cool, thanks! Where is a good place to buy a set of Johnson Hylift's? I initially was looking at Butlers since their Comp 852B lifter say they are Johnson Hylifts, but I have since read here, that they are not any longer.

Going back nearly 50 years I've never once seen a part number or country of origin stamped or etched on a lifter. With all the outsourcing and re-boxing going on with these sort of parts I'd spend the time and funds to make sure you end up with Hylift Johnson lifters on top of you flat hydraulic camshaft.
ALL of the lobe failure stories started back when they went out of business and the outsourcing began. Folks blamed the lack of trace metals in the oil, improper "break-in", soft cam cores, and about a dozen other things. It's nothing more than running cheap/soft/poorly finished lifters on your new cam. Insist on the best, follow the correct break-in procedures, use good oil and verify after run-in that all the pushrods are spinning. I paint a white line on the top or exposed portion of the pushrods. Then after break-in I'll remove the valve covers and get the engine idling really slow and take a look to make sure they are spinning. I also cut the oil filter open and take a look to make sure it's clean. It ALWAYS tells the story with this sort of thing......Cliff

The subject of what company uses what, and who's lifters has been beat to death here. No cam manufacturers uses Hylift Johnson, because only one factor, that is price.
