It's been a year now but it's finally getting painted it's mint turquoise this weekend. It's not a high end body shop but my guy is doing a good job working on it in his spare time. With the nos 1/4s being installed and the work that's been done it would of been alot more expensive if I had taken it somewhere else. Also he helped me yank the motor and had it freshened and reinstalled it...I dought a body shop would help with these things. Needs new mufflers which he will help with and other things.( New Carpet, etc) So it will be far from done but at least the paint will be on it.

Picked up materials from paint to sealers, hardeners ,clear coat ,etc,,, 1800.00,,, ouch. Yes not as bad as buying modern reds but still higher than what we were guessing total. He mixed the mint turquoise and it looked darker than an original piece that was hidden under some weather stripping. Lightened it up by adding 600 more of silver. Still looked a hair darker than the original but we didn't dare to go anymore.

Well he painted and clearcoated the nose, trunk underneath and front and rear valances. Fenders, hood, and car tomorrow. This is a piece of metal out of the original door jamb and shows the original paint that was underneath rubber. Like I said earlier he added like 600 grams of silver to the formula that he found to come up with this color because it was a little dark. It's still just a tiny bit darker than the original but I don't care to mess with it anymore. The paint really changes color whether your indirect light or in a slight shade. So here is some comparison pictures the original color and today's paint. If you Google mint turquoise 70 GTO you see a few different shades of mint turquoise so all I had to go on was my original sample.

More...herres a pic of sanding through the paint to find different paint jobs. The blueish looking one appears to be the original paint and the greenish was the next one after. Neather look to be the same as the door jamb sample.

Took the nose out into the daylight...at any angle it's blotchy. Looked perfect under the flourescent lights.

Looks great in the picture; disappointing if it doesn't look good outside though. What could be done differently to correct the blotchy appearance? Paint or clear issue?

He repainted the nose and valances with no sign of blotchy in the daylight. Seems to be it was a coverage issue with the paint.. painting the car tomorrow. With more paint on the panel it seems to have a little more flop to the paint than it did the first time.

Cant wait to see it when its all painted then wet sanded and buffed. Fingers crossed the rest comes out good and even. Or he said he'll keep at it til its good. Bitch of a color to lay down and all that metallic. Pic looks a little more blue than it is in person.

If you get in the light just right you can see very little blotchy... nothing like before. Trying to decide if to take it to a guy with a spray booth and let him try it or just leave it and cut and buff. Trying to get it running so we can drive it outside in the daylight. Got the motor back in and currently sprucing up the front fender Wells so we can mount the fenders.
