Plus i bulit one of my carbs.... Harvey carb. Since it rained here for 2 days straight i spent some quality time with the blast cabinet and the work bench. I had 3 screwed up carbs that each had something different wrong with them to make 1 good one. This is practice to do the one i plan on running on the car off of a 421.

What was screwed up on each of the 3 you practiced on?

Love those Pontiac AFB carbs.

At this point in the game I could care less if it was a GTO vs a Lemans. No ego trip for me.
And as you said, at some car shows you have the only Lemans there.

Will copy some of your pics for use on my chassis car when I convert it back to a LEMANS (with a non ladder bar suspension).

Two of the carbs had the choke housing threads stripped, twisted, and or bent. One had the screw broken off in the lever for the accelerator pump, one needs the main throttle shaft bushed, one had the shaft bushed but the check ball assemble to the accelerator pump was frozen in the base. That is the body i ended up using. Soaked the assembly over night in atf / acetone mix, and then drilled out with a left hand drill bit. Drilled about half way through, and it came right out. The third body someone else had worked on, and was supposed to be a good carb. Once i opened it up i found that they had the same problem with the check ball assembly, but they were not successful in removing it without tearing up the bowl. Tom, if you're interested i can post pictures of the chassis before i took apart too. Photo of 3rd body that got scrapped.

That would be much appreciated. 'Fred' (the chassis car) has no floor boards and has a Alston Drag Chassis under it. Would like to remove all of that stuff (as the body overall is solid) and install a Factory type frame (possible modded with a 78/79) sub frame tacked on the front. I was spoiled on the handling with the 78 TA I had (as well as the better 1LE Brakes). Would be nice to see how your chassis came apart for documentation.

Speaking of Brakes, did you install a 69/72 Disc Brake set-up?

They sell several variations of the stuff here in Oklahoma. Some of it will freeze easily even in our fairly mild climate...buyer beware...

Yes, the brake set up is the 69-72 brake kit from The Right Stuff. I had full intentions of using Scarebird's kit, but was at a swap meet this spring and Right Stuff made me an offer i just could not turn down. What you see there is their mini kit. It includes the hoses, spindles, brackets, rotors, backing plates, bearings, seals, and pads. Everything you need for the install, the only thing you reuse is your steering arms that bolt to the tie rod. Seems to be very nice quality stuff. I did swap out their brake pads though for a set of the Raybestos EBC pads. Tom, back to work today so i'll post those pictures for you this evening. The car supposedly only had about 63,000 miles on it and as tight as the ball joints and tie rods were, i believe it. I actually was able too reuse all of the tie rods and upper ball joints. I don't think any of it had ever been apart. As for the washer fluid, i've been burnt on that once. That's all -30 stuff on the shelf.

Great Pictures, refreshed my memory on several details.

If not a big problem, post up a few pics every few days and we can "relearn" from your documentation effort.

Nice! Great to see a LeMans being saved. You don't see that many around.

At the SVGTO Club show this past August up in PA there was one that I remember. I'm thinking maybe a second one but that's all. As for here in DE, I've not seen any in a long time.

And got the steering gear back from rebuild and converted to 12.7:1 (3 1/8) turn lock to lock. All of the tie rods were nice and tight still, so all of those were glass beadeaded along with the pitman arm. New center link from our sponsor.

Been a while since i caught this up. I ended up doing a mini-mechanical restoration on a friends 66 Lincoln Continental.... an effort to make some money to pay for my project. While the money side worked out well, my project sat. I did make enough to pay for several things for my project. My heads just hit their 1 year anniversary at SD Performance, so hoping to see them sometime in the near future. The machine shop has the block ready to go, align bored and honed, crank is done and ready and block is bored out .030 over, and awaiting final hone. We won't go any further on that until i get the heads back. The brake booster is out in California, and i have the dash pad, steering wheel and cluster bezel all restored and back from the vendors. Pete Siero has the cluster and clock, and i have the transmission here and finished. My lovely wife let me have a stripper for a day a couple of weeks ago , so i am in the process of cleaning the body back up and getting ready for some primer. Not moving as quickly as i would like, but still moving none the less.

That sounds like it was one heck of a party!

Now back to work on the Lemans, correct?
